Role Description: Lifting Services Team Leader, Alongside Services, Portsmouth Naval Base
- _To lead on all heavy lift activity including planning, subcontract management and management of resource in support of operational requirements at Portsmouth Naval Base.
Reports To: Alongside Services Delivery Lead
Role Purpose:
The role is responsible for leading on all heavy lift activity. The role holder will be required to manage planning, subcontract management as well as work across multiple stakeholders to support deconfliction as well as provide technical advice, with the support of the Lifting Authorised Person, for complex activities. The role holder will be proactive and collaborate across the waterfront organisation to understand the wider impact of decision making, ensuring our delivery within contractual requirements but also agility to meet changing demands.
- _Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
Must have:
- An extensive background and understanding of heavy lift services including expertise in planning complex lifts
- A thorough understanding of Lifting Equipment and Lifting Operation Regulations
- Be an all-out team player who is able to lead, or take part in, team based activities
- Self-motivation and, as part of a multi-disciplined team, deliver effectively and against tight schedules.
- Computer literacy and be fully conversant with Microsoft Office, including Excel and be fully familiar with the use of smart phones
- Be an experiencedLeader with excellent communication skills, capable of working and managing under pressure to achieve set deadlines
- Confident in leading a large multi-skilled team to ensure delivery of Lifting Services
- Ability to communicate at multiple levels of an organisation and manage senior stakeholders, adapting their communication style to the audience
- An understanding of conducting safety inspections and investigations into SHE related incidents
Desirable:
- IOSH accreditation
- A knowledge of mobile and fixed cranes
- A knowledge of CAFM
- A knowledge of Sharepoint
- A knowledge of Asset Management Principles
- Have NEBOSH accreditation
- Experience of working in a Naval Base/Port environment or heavy lift in an industrial environment
Core Responsibilities:
To Lead a large team of Port Operatives with varying skills, i.e. Crane operatives, Forklift drivers, slingers plus administrative staff as part of the service delivery team. This involves giving instruction, all people management responsibilities, delivering daily team briefs and weekly toolbox talks. Oversee all lifting operations and conduct workplace safety inspections. Ensure all licenses and SHE training is up to date.
You will have an excellent working relationship with all of your “customers”. These will range from other areas of Alongside Services, engineering project managers, lifting APs, and slinging teams.
You will also be in regular contact with external contractors such as training providers and contract crane companies where an excellent working relationship is essential to ensure success.
You will liaise with Hard FM mechanical teams for servicing and defect rectification of lifting assets and booking external resources to cover unavailability when required.
You will liaise with team leaders from other Alongside Services departments in support of wider Alongside Services tasks when multi-skilled teams is required.
Working in a fast paced environment, it is essential that you work in a flexible and adaptable way, able to make rapid decisions when priorities change or problems occur.
Able to work under pressure in order to meet tight deadlines, whilst maintaining all safety standards.
You will have excellent decision making and negotiating skills with the ability to deconflict situation
