Overview:
An exciting opportunity has become available to join the editorial team for BMJ Open. BMJ Open is an online, open access journal, dedicated to publishing medical research from all disciplines and therapeutic areas.
We are recruiting for an enthusiastic and efficient Editorial Coordinator to join the team to assist with ensuring the large and complex editorial team performs as efficiently as possible. The Editorial Coordinator will be responsible for providing metrics for all stages of the editorial workflow and will manage the processes in the peer review workflow and ensure alignment with other journals.
**Responsibilities**:
- Working closely with the Editor in Chief to ensure BMJ Open workflow is efficient and tasks are prioritised correctly
- Coordinating and prioritising tasks for freelancers and agencies, and recruiting and overseeing relationships
- Responding to presubmission queries and queries about editorial policies, e.g. trial registration, open peer review
- Tracking priority papers and sending to the editors for expedited triage
- Managing and overseeing any journal backlog, ensuring the tasks are distributed according to resources and agreed priorities
Social media engagement - managing Twitter output
- Reporting - running and creating editorial reports to monitor overall editorial performance and specific aspects (e.g. relating to backlogged papers, editor by editor performance comparisons)
Qualifications:
- Proven experience of working in the editorial office of a peer-reviewed journal or journal publisher
- Strong understanding of the peer review process, and the stages a manuscript goes through to be published
- Be numerate and spreadsheet-proficient, knowledgeable of formula and advanced functions in Excel or Google Sheets.
