The return to practice programme allows work-based learning through supervised clinical placement and, where required, combines, and integrates academic learning. As a return to practice clinician, you will be based in a clinical service and can expect to gain the experience needed to meet all the requirements of return to practice.
At the end of the programme, the return to practice clinician will be equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes, and behaviours relevant to employment in their professional occupation and will re-join the HCPC in their allied health professional role.
The return to practice programme aims to provide a flexible approach to return to practice, working in partnership with returnees to deliver appropriate and varied placements that increase confidence and competence ahead of re-registration.
Placement and development needs will be discussed and agreed with your supervisor, to support your requirements as a returnee.
The overall outcome from the return to practice programme is to support re-registration to the professional register, to resume practice.
- Work with Practice Supervisors and Practice Assessors to take responsibility for developing own clinical competence, leadership, and reflective practice skills within the workplace, while on placement.
- Compile a portfolio of professional evidence demonstrating completion of return to practice program and use evidence appropriately in submission to re-registration
- Deliver high quality, compassionate care under the supervision of a registered care professional, with a focus on promoting health and independence
- Work as part of a designated clinical and care team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual
- Carry out specific delegated clinical and care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency, under the direction and supervision of a registered care professional.
- To develop plan of care, within the parameters of own clinical competence, accessing clinical and care advice when needed.
- Support throughout the programme and during the recruitment process
- Supervised placement practice relevant to your requirements
- Professional development opportunities across the trust
- Support to build a competency portfolio
- Peer support from friendly and supportive colleagues
Please note that contracted hours can be agreed on an individual basis according to service needs and re-registration requirements.
