**Job summary**:
The Department for Business and Trade negotiates trade agreements for the UK and promotes UK Trade and Investment around the world.

The Global Supply Chains and Economic Security Directorate works across Government to strengthen critical supply chains. We assess vulnerabilities in critical supply chains and work with government departments to identify actions to improve resilience.

Insights & Analysis is a multi-disciplinary analytical team that sits in the heart of the Global Supply Chains and Economic Security Directorate. The team is the main analytical function for the directorate, providing high quality and timely monitoring and analysis on supply chains. Key workstreams include driving forward the directorate’s Monitoring & Evaluation programme of work to ensure a strong evidence base on directorate’s activities and impact; undertaking detailed supply chain mapping exercises; rapid analysis in response to emerging disruptions; development of data-driven approaches to improve visibility of critical supply chains and their vulnerabilities; and development of new disruptive event monitoring systems to identify emerging risks to critical supply chains.

This role is ideal for an experienced and high performing Social Researcher or someone with experience in designing and managing monitoring, evaluation, and research activities using a range of research methods. They would be someone who is eager to be challenged and work on an exciting, fast-paced programme of the first of its type at DBT, within a new Directorate. The role has regular contact with analysts and policy colleagues across Global Supply Chain and Economic Security, Posts in countries where the UK has critical dependences and with Cross-Whitehall colleagues. The role is an excellent opportunity to develop and evidence stretching competencies.

**Job description**:
The role sits within the Disruptive Events Monitoring team. This team is responsible for utilising data exploration and data science to improve visibility and monitoring of critical supply chains. The team is a four person multi-disciplinary team with members from GORS, GSS and GRS. Reporting directly to the Grade 7 Analyst leading the team, the post holder is responsible for:

- Project managing an ongoing monitoring and evaluation work-strand currently under completion by external consultants. This requires documentation of the methods and data sources used, alongside developing our understanding of how data sources are combined to produce supply chain outputs.
- Leading on reporting the outputs of the monitoring and evaluation results to senior boards and committees. Working with team leads to define their outputs and outcomes and maintaining the newly formed M&E framework of the directorate.
- Maintenance and development of the Overseas Intelligence Survey (OIS). The OIS is hosted online and is set up to collect information from Posts in countries where the UK has very high and/or high critical supply chain dependencies.
- Lead on promotion of the OIS as a vehicle for the wider Global Supply Chain team to collect structured information from Posts. Lead on engagement with Posts and develop a feedback loop with various stakeholders for the information collected.
- Provide social research input to the refinement of supply chain mapping, where there is a specific requirement for qualitative research skills in addition to quantitative trade data analysis.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.
