We are currently recruiting for the role of Lead Midwife for Education and Workforce which is a post that is full of opportunity to support the development and wellbeing of a wonderful team within our maternity department. The postholder will be responsible for overseeing pre and post registration education, all aspects of education governance plus recruitment and retention. The role of Lead Midwife for Education and Workforce is an exciting opportunity for any midwives who have a good level of experience working within Education and training and who either have leadership experience or are looking to move into a leadership role. The post will include managing a team who are responsible for supporting all educational activities (pre and post reg), recruitment and quality assurance. The team will have a strong focus on wellbeing and development with the aim of improving retention and ensuring a well-educated workforce who are capable of providing a high standard of safe and individualized care to all people that we care for. You will need to have a good knowledge of all current issues in education, training and a good understanding of some of the current challenges within the maternity workforce. The postholder will require a good understanding of the requirements of the Ockenden report as it will be central to the role, working as part of the team who will be implementing the 15 essential actions. North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Hospital Trust (NMUH) is one of London’s busiest healthcare providers, providing hospital care and community services for the 350,000 people living in Enfield, Haringey and beyond. Our specialist services include HIV, cardiology, blood disorders, diabetes, fertility, sickle cell and thalassemia. In addition to a full range of cancer diagnosis and treatment services, the Helen Rollason Cancer Support Centre is based on-site and provides services to support cancer patients’ wellbeing. We also provide community services and have a dedicated 0-19 service for children and young people in Enfield so that they can get the best possible start in life. This includes health visitors and school nurses who are delivering the national Healthy Child Programme, which provides a structured framework for the delivery of key interventions to support the health and wellbeing of children and families from 0 to 5 and school aged children from 5-19. The 0-19 service aims to improve pathways and partnerships with services in the hospital and deliver excellent care for the children and families. Education and Training Pre-registration Training - Lead, promote, and facilitate a safe and positive learning environment for student midwives. - In partnership with the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs): - Co-ordinate and facilitate the educational activities of all pre - registration midwives - Promote evidenced based learning in the development of midwifery practice and ensure all Trust based teaching reflects current curriculum content and structure. - Manage cases of failing students in collaboration with the University to provide the best opportunity for improvement and success - Work effectively in partnership with the HEIs to manage student placement mapping, ensuring an individualized approach to enable all students to meet their course and EU requirements - Work collaboratively with Health Education England (HEE) regarding placement expansion and placement assurance - Create practice-based opportunities for learning to reinforce the classroom based theory so that students achieve the NMC requirements to complete the midwifery course, and trouble shoot and escalate where appropriate. - Ensure support for students in practice by the provision of continuing professional development of Practice Assessors and Supervisors. Oversee annual update for all midwives - Determine the optimal ratios of assessors in practice for student midwife and develop a strategy to meet and maintain this objective. - Prioritise wellbeing of students and provide pastoral care to all students both in maternity or wider experience settings. Escalate concerns to appropriate HEIs where appropriate. - Liaise with Nursing education and clinical teams to provide a comprehensive programme of wider experience placements - Work proactively towards reducing student attrition by meeting the needs of individual students and engaging with any HEI, sector or national initiatives focused on that aim. - Line manage Clinical
