Job Summary We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic midwife who will provide clinical and managerial midwifery leadership within the maternity unit. The post holder will be a registered Midwife who will co‑ordinate the Systematic Examination of the Newborn (SEN) service at Royal London Maternity services in line with the National Screening standards. The SEN Practitioner will be responsible for the management and delivery of the SEN programme and will provide leadership, clinical expertise, and support within all maternity clinical areas where SEN is carried out. The SEN Lead will monitor day‑to‑day compliance with the SEN programme standards including monitoring the S4N failsafe for all babies born at this unit or returning to our catchment area to ensure the SEN is undertaken within 72 hours of birth. They will be based in clinical practice, responsible for ensuring that standards of care are always upheld. Main duties of the job The purpose of this role is to be a Midwifery Lead in the team carrying out Examination of the Newborn (EON) and Neonatal and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) Screening assessments, and to play a key role in the achievement of screening standards and quality of care. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Screening Coordinator in delivering the NIPE Screening programme across maternity. The role requires extensive knowledge on this programme and requires the postholder to be an Examination of the Newborn (EON) trained Midwife. The NIPE Lead Midwife will be expected to initiate and lead on quality improvement projects and will have the ability to educate and assess others. They will work collaboratively with the Maternity Safety and Quality team to review any clinical incidents or to identify areas of good practice. The post holder will have to be computer literate and have experience of accurate updating of databases and understand data quality issues.
