Pharmacy Support Worker - Support Services (Band 2 progressing to Band 3 after achievement of level 2 qualification and related experience)

This varied role will involve a rotation between our Stores and Dispensary departments.

Learning how to label and dispense individual patient medication is core in the dispensary. The role also involves some clerical duties such as prescription filing, booking in prescriptions, passing invoices for payment, answering the telephone etc. Whilst working in stores you will be an essential part of stock distribution assisting in minimising waste at pharmacy and ward level and saving nursing time. At ward level after training, you will regularly visit dedicated ward areas to monitor stock levels and expiry dates, working closely with nursing staff. Manual handling of stock and a significant amount of physical work are key parts of this role.

- To prepare labels and dispense items against prescription transcription sheets and discharge summaries in the dispensary.
- To undertake data entry work on the pharmacy computer system, and other keyboard/computer work relevant to the position.
- To process orders for goods requiring delivery to ward areas.
- To top-up stock levels of medicines on specified wards.
- To undertake accurate receipt of goods into the Pharmacy Stores and booking in stock onto the pharmacy stock control system.
- To process the return to suppliers of any incorrect or damaged deliveries.
- To process invoices ensuring prompt payment.
- To maintain stock in all areas as per standard operating procedures, ensuring stock rotation and adherence to relevant Health and Safety and manual handling regulations.
- To undertake regular stock takes, checking for expired goods within the dispensary and stores areas, ensuring stock rotation.
- Maintain security of stock.
- Responsible for checking, storage, distribution of medicines.
- Completion of level 2 Apprenticeship qualification for all staff dispensing medicines (which must be completed within 12 months of starting if selected).
- Achieve in-house competencies in all relevant areas of practice.
- To assist in the training of new staff when individual competencies have been reached.
