Finance Assistant

An exciting opportunity to join the Defence Finance Team, within the Public & Industrial sector. This is a new role created following the recent growth of the Defence Business Unit. The role is a varied and demanding role that both helps to support growth and adds to the existing portfolio.
**Role and Duties**:
- Assisting with weekly Ledger Account reconciliations aligned to the Management Accounts.
- Supporting the Finance Manager to ensure revenues and costs are captured and allocated accurately.
- Understand the key cost drivers, budget variances and effects on profitability.
- Undertake nominal ledger tasks including processing journals, nominal ledger cross charges and period end reconciliations.
- Develop cost models and operational trackers to capture, trend and report both operating costs and statistical information
- Preparation and interpretation of accurate and timely financial information of the operations on a regular basis.
- Supporting with Management Team with financial analysis.
- Develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders.
- Reporting and monitoring of KPIs and non-financial information to support service delivery and contractual commitments.
- Assisting the Finance Manager with balance sheet preparation including robust reconciliations to support balances.
- Completion of monthly payroll reconciliations.
- Raising of regular internal cross-charges, sales invoices and supporting the credit-control team.
- Completion of regular large operational reconciliations.
- Supporting the Finance Manager(s) with responsibilities across the wider Defence business.
- Part-Qualified and studying towards the AAT/CIMA/ACCA qualification.
- Experience of working with a finance software package or ERP package.
- Transport/Logistics Industry experience preferred but not essential.
- At least 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships at various levels.
- Work to a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail and promote healthy and robust financial controls.
- Be able to work under pressure whilst maintaining high standards.
- Be flexible and respond quickly and positively to internal and external stakeholder requests.
- Have excellent IT skills and be able to understand and harness various systems to benefit the operation.
- Have commitment, passion and a progressive attitude for achievement.
