The post holder will take day to day professional responsibility and be accountable for leading and developing clinical practice programmes for endoscopy staff ensuring safe delivery of quality patient care. To support endoscopy staff in achieving demonstrable delivery of safe, cost effective clinical care within a high quality learning environment. The post holder will be responsible for leading clinical practice. The role encompasses supporting the Unit Manager in achieving improvement in services and key performance indicators for the Clinical Support Services Division and Trust.

The role is split between clinical days, teaching days and support days. The post holder will still be expected to take part in the on call rota.

Maintain a highly professional personal profile and update clinical knowledge and skills as an exemplar role model in clinical practice for endoscopy staff.

S/he will be visible and accessible in the clinical area for patients, relatives, students and staff.

Provide support to all of the endoscopy team, acting as a professional resource and facilitator for developing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care to ensure clinical effectiveness.

Contribute to developing a culture that promotes equality and values diversity

Assist in maintaining an environment conducive to education, teaching, audit and training for patients and staff.

Responsible for the clinical leadership of endoscopy teams as required

Role model standards of care and expected behaviour through participation in direct patient care.

Maintain personal standards of conduct and behaviour, which are consistent with Trust, Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and HCPC standards and requirements.

To participate in the requirements of the on call service as required.

to participate in a 6 day working week including weekends and lates.

To facilitate, support and develop staff within the endoscopy department including training staff in safe procedures etiquette and professionalism.

To proactively review lists in advance to assist the unit manager to ensure that the weekly staff rota maximises learning opportunities.

Assist the unit manager in ensuring that the quality of clinical placements is enhanced through supportive teaching, mentoring and coaching at all levels.

To participate in the multi-professional education team in the delivery of effective clinical educational programmes for endoscopy staff.

Support staff awareness and development to ensure emergencies are managed in accordance with hospital policy.

Support the Operational Manager to reduce inefficiencies and ineffective utilisation of the procedure lists.

Support the development, implementation and periodic review of clinical protocols to ensure patient safety.

Participate and support staff in undertaking clinical audit.

Support both team leader (Appraiser) and the appraise to complete annual appraisal and periodic review where needed. Support Operational Manager in ensuring that training and development need identified on a Personal Development Plan and the staff are properly supported by suitably qualified staff to achieve the plan.

Support and encourage the integration and development of knowledge and skills of staff throughout endoscopy and aim to develop a greater breadth of competencies enabling service flexibility and provision for the future.

Support the unit manager in the recruitment and selection of staff to ensure they have the competency, attitude and skills to match the requirements of the post.

To promote staff and personal responsibility for awareness and compliance with legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures
