We are advertising for a Full Time Animal Care Assistant here at Cathcart and Winn Veterinary Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for people driven to providing outstanding care to animals.
**Your role and responsibilities**
The role of a Patient Care Assistant is to support the nursing and wider practice team in achieving the highest standards of care, working enthusiastically within the team you will help maintain a happy, efficient, and effective working environment.
Patient Care Assistants undertake a variety of duties such as maintaining infection control, patient-friendly handling and providing supportive care to patients, under the direction of the Veterinary Surgeon or Registered Veterinary Nurse.
The Patient Care Assistant role will involve working in a variety of areas within the practice covering client and patient care, as directed by the Veterinary Surgeons and/or Registered Veterinary Nurses.
This will include but is not limited to:
- To familiarise yourself fully to the individual patients' conditions, monitoring, and treatment needs.
- Seek guidance if required to provide the best care to your patients.
- Provide oral or topical medication as prescribed & directed by the Veterinarian.
- Use initiative to constantly assess patients' conditions and report clearly to your colleagues.
- Handle and restrain patients maintaining your own and the animals' safety.
- Maintain patient hygiene to the highest level.
- Walk inpatients, to provide exercise and toilet opportunities.
- Use monitoring & clinical equipment as directed (training provided)
- Provide oxygen therapy if required and monitor the patient.
- Maintain fluid therapy as directed, with the use of drip pumps or syringe driver.
- Maintain accurate computer and written records and communicate well with your colleagues.
- Take responsibility for your own safety. Bring any concerns regarding your own safety or the security of the practice to your line managers attention.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of your work area and floors.
- Restock consumables.
- Partake in hand-over rounds at the beginning and end of your shift.
