**Some details about the role**
South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) is seeking to recruit a Locality Officer to work as part of a multi-skilled neighborhood based team. This role will be based in Ulverston to support the town and surrounding areas.
As a Locality Officer you will be providing a presence out and about in the community and building and maintaining excellent working relationships with Ward Councilors, Customers and Partner organisations. You will also be supporting other Locality Officers in managing complex situations.
In the role you will have an enforcement presence, dealing with investigations and evidence collection, with a view to further enforcement or legal action. You will also be supporting the team with fly tipping, abandoned vehicles, enforcement around Public Space Protection Orders, domestic and trade waste issues. You will attend annual training courses in the above areas of work.
Part of your duties (approx. two days per week) you will undertake private water sampling across the district; accredited water sampling training will be provided.
Locality Services is a flexible service that provides customer support which may extend beyond traditional working hours, therefore flexible working arrangements may be required. Some weekend working is also required as and when needed.
Please note, the Locality Team mostly work outdoors in all weathers and terrains.
**What we are looking for in you**
To be successful in the role, you will know and understand the community, Council assets and public concerns. You will also be able to resolve issues and support new projects and initiatives.
Applicants should have a proven ability to be accurate, detailed and professional in their approach to work and an ability to deliver high standards of customer service at all times. Experience in handling enforcement issues is essential.
**In addition you will have**:
- Good standard of education with a minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent experience.
- A UK driving license and access to a vehicle to use for work.
- The ability to work alone as well as part of a team.
