**Job summary**:
The Satellite Communication (SATCOM) Team run one of the largest programmes in Defence and offer roles with a great level of variety and career development opportunity. Not only are we delivering live services to the operational community today, but we are also responsible for designing and procuring the next generation of satellite-based communications capability for the future.
Defence Digital provides digital and technology services to our Armed Forces, ensuring they can operate securely via radio, satellite, and the internet. Operating at scale, with an annual budget in excess of £2Bn and a diverse team of 2,500 colleagues, we're aiming to make our Armed Forces some of the most technologically advanced in the world. To do that we're growing our capabilities in disciplines like data science, automation, and cyber security.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
**Job description**:
SATCOM is responsible for the sustainment and development of the MOD's strategic, worldwide communications capability. It is tasked with ensuring continuity of current service and also its future development. This work is vital in order to satisfy the ever-increasing demand for Defence communications and to defeat the growing array of sophisticated threats.
There are opportunities to develop your career across the team. You will work with established Project Managers and more junior Project Support Officers to enable delivery to time, cost and quality. Your role will be to support the team and enable the smooth running of the project through the operation of project management processes, and the leading of business management actions and activities. We have a variety of HEO level roles within the programme, some of which will have responsibility for a small team.

- as it transitions to being at the heart of capability delivery within the future SATCOM service delivery framework.
Responsibilities will include:
Planning and scheduling - Implement and maintain appropriate systems to enable effective planning and scheduling.
Monitoring and reporting - Establish and maintain project controls, keeping the project manager aware of the project status. Prepare project performance reports, presenting statistics and researching new information.
Admin - Ensure organisational tasks are carried out efficiently. Manage and monitor compliance of the project with Departmental Security, Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, Business Continuity and Business Planning.
Stakeholder Engagement - Manage professional relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, and act as lead point of contact for some external parties. Draft and sign-off correspondence.
Risks and Issues - Manage potential risk areas, working with risk managers and escalating as appropriate.
Line Management
- There may be some line management responsibilities depending on the specific role.
**Person specification**:
We are looking for people with project experience and ideally qualifications in this area. However, this is not essential as training and access to recognised APM qualifications will be provided and you will be expected to complete these as part of your development programme.
These Project Support Officer roles are critical to continuity within all communication activities so require enthusiasm, a can-do attitude and a willingness to contribute to the aims of the programme.
These roles may be suitable for hybrid working, which is an informal, non-contractual and voluntary arrangement, blending a balance of attendance in the workplace (your permanent duty station) and working from home as a personal choice. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
