We are looking to appoint a Team Leader to supervise a team of Phlebotomists, providing a high quality pre-analytical support service to patients within Wirral University Teaching Hospital and contracted GP Surgeries. We are looking for people with excellent communication skills, hand to eye co-ordination, who are flexible and customer focused. You will need basic computer skills and be able to meet the physical demands of the role which include standing, bending, walking and pushing phlebotomy trolleys for the length of the shift. Working flexibly over a 7 day rota you will have shifts covering early morning, afternoon, evening, weekend and Bank Holiday shifts as required. The post holder(s) will also require access to a car or have an alternative means of transport as they will be expected to carry out venepuncture in the community settings. You will be responsible for the day to day supervision, mentoring and co-ordination of Band 2 Phlebotomists within the team, including; IPRs, return to work interviews, training and prioritising workload. You will be required to allocate workload to the team, review rosters and prioritise workload of the team as appropriate. You will also be responsible for maintaining a high standard of clinical work when carrying out phlebotomy procedures working in wards, clinics and community practices. Communicate information to patient/donors of all ages, genders, sexual orientation, cultures or physical abilities, in a non-discriminatory or judgemental manner and be able to overcome barriers of communication within these areas. You will be required to perform venepuncture on all patients with minimum supervision. Using personal judgemental skills, you will be expected to collect the correct requests, identify, select and utilise a suitable site fit for the purpose of blood collection and obtain blood samples from patients/donors to a standard fit for laboratory testing ensuring minimum distress or discomfort is caused to the patient/donor during the process. The Wirral is easily accessible with excellent transport links including motorway, train, bus or ferry and within easy reach to the major cities of Liverpool, Chester and Manchester as well as neighbouring North Wales. **Responsibilities**: - To work safely at all times, with regard to the safety and wellbeing of patients, you, colleagues and others in accordance with Trust policies and procedures. - Responsible for the day to day supervision, mentoring and co-ordination of Band 2 Phlebotomists within team, including; IPRs, return to work interviews, training and prioritising workload. - Allocate workload to team, review rosters and prioritise workload of team where/if necessary. - Communicate clearly with all patients in a non-discriminatory or judgemental manner, always treating patients courteously, with dignity and respect. Also pay particular attention to patients where there may be barriers of understanding. - Communicate work procedures within team and other departments e.g. Blood Sciences as well as providing induction to new staff, dealing with queries from patients, carers and/or relatives. - Obtain informed consent in order to perform a venepuncture procedure. - Safeguard the confidentiality of all information regarding the patient. - Independently manage own allocated workload and perform and undertake requests for blood specimen/Blood Culture collections. - Obtain an accurate volume of blood to fit the required chemical to blood ratio within the sample tube and the mixing of these components to ensure the sample is suitable for analysis. - Willingness to undergo training to expand existing skills including; obtaining blood samples from PICC lines and cannulation of patients. - Identify, select and use suitable/appropriate equipment for the specimen collection using personal judgemental skills. - Obtain blood samples from patients to a standard fit for laboratory testing ensuring minimum distress or discomfort and trauma to the site area is caused to the patient/donor during the blood collection process. - Give patients, guardians and carers, appropriate advice
