Milestone Infrastructure is currently looking to recruit an Apprentice Highways Operative to work on our Oxfordshire Contract in our Drayton Depot near Abingdon

As an **Apprentice Highways Operative** you will be part of our Oxfordshire Drayton Depot who are responsible for maintaining the Oxfordshire County Council Network.

The role itself is interesting and varied, and at all times, you will be working with fully qualified operatives who will support and mentor you whilst you learn. Some of the tasks you can expect to undertake include:

- Construction of new cycleways and footways
- Maintenance of roads and footways
- Laying paving slabs and block paving
- Kerbing
- Pipe laying and drainage works
- New Roads and Streetworks training
- Utility pipes and cables location using CAT scanning tools
- Use of IT to receive and complete jobs
- Strict adherence to safety protocols at all times

Ideally, we would like you to possess at least 3 GCSEs at grade 5 or above in English, Maths and a Science, however, this is not essential. We are most interested in your enthusiasm, potential and willingness to learn.

**Skills & Knowledge Requirements**
- Enthusiasm
- Full driving licence or a willingness to gain one within 12 months
- Willing and able to work outside in all weathers
- Computer literate

**Additional Information**
- You must possess a high degree of manual dexterity demonstrated through the use of hand tools.
- You will be required to work outdoors in all weathers and be required to walk and stand on uneven ground.
- You must also be able to work within a confined space, without restriction.

We are also looking for an individual who can communicate with confidence, work as part of a team, and demonstrate their potential to succeed as an Apprentice Highways Operative, a role that integrates academic learning and provides valuable experiences working in the field.

This is a safety critical role, and the learning element of the apprenticeship will provide you with the appropriate health, safety and environmental knowledge as well as the practical and technical skills required in order to qualify. You will undertake block placements (usually a couple of weeks at a time) with the training provider. During these periods, you will be provided with hotel accommodation, all meals and travel will be paid for / reimbursed.
