Security Officer

**REPORTING TO**:
The Security Officer reports to the Assistant Facilities Manager.

**SUMMARY**:
The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, employees, and visitors at the University's front entrance. This position involves monitoring access points, maintaining a visible presence on campus, and providing excellent customer service to all individuals entering or exiting the premises. The Security Officer is expected to handle security incidents calmly and professionally while adhering to University policies and procedures.

**MAIN DUTIES**:
The Security Officer main duties are to:

- Monitor and control access to the university's front entrance, ensuring only authorized individuals are allowed on campus.
- Greet and assist students, staff, and visitors in a friendly and professional manner both in person and while answering the reception desk phone.
- Maintain a visible presence at the front entrance, deterring potential security threats through proactive observation and engagement.
- Respond to security incidents, such as disturbances, safety hazards, or suspicious activities, by following established protocols and promptly alerting the appropriate authorities.
- Provide directions, guidance, and information to individuals seeking assistance on campus.
- Monitor and operate security equipment, including surveillance cameras, access control systems, alarms, and parking booking systems.
- Collaborate with other campus security personnel to ensure seamless coordination and effective response to emergencies.
- Complete incident reports and maintain accurate records of security-related activities.
- Stay updated on university policies, procedures, and emergency response protocols to effectively fulfill job responsibilities.
- Assist in the coordination of special events or functions, ensuring proper security measures are in place.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development programs to enhance knowledge and skills related to security practices.
- Adhere to and promote the University’s health and safety policies and procedures.

**LOCATION**:
The Security Officer is located at the University’s Chiswick Campus.

**SPECIAL NOTE**:
An Enhanced level DBS check is required for this position.

**GENERAL**:
**PERSON SPECIFICATION**

**ESSENTIAL**:

- proven experience in a similar security or customer service role;
- strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors;
- excellent observation and problem-solving abilities to identify potential security risks and respond appropriately;
- ability to remain calm, composed, and professional in stressful situations;
- familiarity with security equipment and systems, such as surveillance cameras, access control systems, and alarms;
- understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and best practices related to campus security;
- physical fitness and stamina to perform duties that may involve standing, walking, and occasionally lifting or moving heavy objects.

**DESIRABLE**:

- experience in Education or campus setting.
- familiarity with working with third party vendors.

**HOURS**

Hours are 35 a week working Monday to Friday, 7 hours a day with one-hour unpaid lunch with additional overtime if needed. This role is not suitable for remote working, and you will be required to attend the office every day. This is a second shift role; hours will be between 2pm-10pm.

Pay: Up to £26,000.00 per year
