Talbot House Trust are a registered charitable trust with a Residential Children's Home and School on the same site. Set in 8 acres of beautifully maintaining gardens and land, you would be forgiven if you thought we are based in the heart of the countryside, however, we are based in Walbottle, offering an easy commute for our staff.
We are looking to recruit additional full time Residential Childcare workers (if you are interested in bank staff please contact us for more inforamtion).
The role of our RCWs is to support the Registered Manager and Senior Residential Childcare Workers with the effective and efficient running of our 7 bedroom and 8 bathroom home. 5 of the en-suite bedrooms are for our children, the other private en-suite bedrooms are for our staff sleep in rooms. Our staff help us to provide security and stability for the young people, enabling the young people to achieve positive change in their lives.
In addition to our competitive salary which starts at £20,898.04 per annum and increases to £21,214.92 per annum following successful probationary period.
We pay sleep in rates of £60 per sleep in shift worked. Overtime is paid at time and one half for all on-site hours worked over and above the contacted hours each month.
Further salary increases are offered after 1 year service to £21,531.81 per annum and again after completion of the Level 3 NVQ which is fully paid for by the Trust (training agreement is required) to the rate of £21,962.33 per annum. Salary will rise again after 5 years of service to £22,357.90 per annum.
The normal duties of the role will usually include the following:
- Support the Registered Manager and Senior Residential Childcare Workers with the effective and efficient running of the home;
- Ensure effective delivery of the policies and procedures in the home;
- Complete risk assessments, care plan and review reports;
- Promote and actively encourage the delivery of a safe, structured and nurturing environment;
- Ensure all necessary documentation is completed;
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team both within the home and with external agencies;
- Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the children and young people at all times;
- Carry out the delivery of all key worker areas and responsibilities;
- Ensure a variety of intervention strategies are utilised in relation to behaviour management;
- Attend reviews and meetings as required;
- Report any incidents or safeguarding concerns to the Registered Manager;
- Monitor and maintain administrative requirements, ensuring that the outcome meets the standards set out in children’s legislation, and the homes working practices;
- Administer and support medication in line with the Trust’s policy;
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions when required;
- Undertake financial management and recording of day-to-day petty cash in accordance with the policy;
- Provide cover and undertake sleep-in duties when required;
- Provide a positive role model for colleagues and young people;
- Ensure ongoing assessment of children and young people’s needs;
- Maintain effective communication and contact between young people and families as required;
- Ensure staff deliver the support required to meet the young people’s social, educational, leisure, emotional, physical and cultural needs;
- Ensure a supportive and open culture is created with the young people in our care;
- Use initiative and problem-solving skills in order to make informed decisions;
- Undertake all administrative duties as required. Safeguarding, health & safety and healthy eating.

Perform duties with due regard to Trust policies and procedures and legislative requirements (to include confidentiality and GDPR regulations) at all times;
Undertake CPD and additional training as required;
All other reasonable duties as required. The above list is not exhaustive and other duties may be attached to the post from time to time. Variation may also occur to the duties and responsibilities without changing the general character of the post on a temporary or permanent basis. This post involves working with children and therefore this post requires an Enhanced Criminal Records Check (DBS Enclosure).
