**Department overview**

The Energy Division writes a broad portfolio of upstream, midstream, downstream and renewable energy risks on a worldwide basis. We are committed to technical underwriting and support our decision making with experienced engineering expertise. Our customersare the most valuable stakeholders in the value chain and we work closely with our claims team to deliver the best possible experience. A great emphasis is placed on long term partnerships with both brokers and assureds and we travel extensively to build andmaintain distribution networks and client relationships across the Globe. We pride ourselves on a collaborative team mentality and have a strong support structure in place to help all associates achieve their goals. We are an established leader in our selectedsegments and target leadership across our full offering. We write business on both Syndicate 3000 paper at Lloyd's and through Markel International Insurance Company Limited.

**The Role**
- Work with the head of downstream energy to develop the downstream energy book, underwriting a market leading portfolio of global energy clients from the London market and other international hubs whilst ensuring long-term profitability of the account.
- Provide leadership, oversight and accountability for the London wholesale book of downstream energy
- Actively contribute to downstream business planning, led by the head of downstream energy.
- Champion continuous development of associates to ensure all team members reach their potential
- Confidently and positively demonstrate the discipline of our chosen underwriting approach
- Monitor and report on portfolio performance in conjunction with the head of downstream energy
- Prioritise customer experience with best-in-class response times to all stakeholders
- Demonstrate sound underwriting judgement whilst continuously scrutinizing performance against plan and adjust approach if required
- Prioritise the team's underwriting strategy and diligently adhere to it at all times

**Skills & experience**
- Have experience working within the London Downstream Energy Market
- Have specific onshore property and business interruption experience, with a technical grasp of current risk factors and underwriting concerns, as well as an understanding of the global insurance marketplace for downstream energy.
- Demonstrate strong numerical and analytical ability
- Demonstrate being an active member of a team and contribute in an open environment
- Have network of London and international distribution channels
