ANAESTHESIA ASSOCIATE (AA) trainee post. Annexe 21 Agenda for change Band 7

The course comprises of 12 two-month teaching blocks within four modules, which introduce trainee AAs to the clinical practice of anaesthesia, applied physics, the anaesthetic machine, and monitoring principles. In later modules trainees study anatomy and physiology related to anaesthesia and surgery. The final assessments are based on the management of life-threatening emergencies and advanced practice. Weekly teaching and tutorials are delivered by a Consultant Anaesthetist through the university e-learning interface. A typical week may consist of a tutorial, two to four days in the clinical practice and the rest involving clinical skills training and self-directed study. The standards of training are high and demanding on individuals to ensure a high calibre of competent AA graduates.

You will join a team of experienced colleagues with an excellent, structured CPD programme in place. The role is varied, demanding and rewarding and the department is keen to hear from proactive and innovative individuals who are committed to following this intense training programme. As well as providing safe anaesthetic care, you will also develop skills in pain management, ultrasound, vascular access including PiCC / mid lines, emergency airway management and deep sedation. Currently at DCHFT there is an experienced anaesthesia associate in post to provide support and mentoring to the successful applicant.

Year 1 - 70% of the top of band 7 - if the trainee is full time the salary would be £32,087.03

Year 2 - 75% of the top of band 7 - if the trainee is full time the salary would be £34,379.25 Upon successful completion of the training move to band 8A - currently £47,126.
