**Summary**:
Her Majesty’s Naval Base Clyde (HMNB Clyde) is home to the United Kingdom’s Strategic Nuclear Deterrent, Astute Class Attack Submarines, Sandown Class Mine Hunter Vessels and 43 Commando Royal Marines. It is an operational support and maintenance Naval Base within Navy Command and comprises both Faslane and Coulport sites.

HMNB Clyde’s primary purpose is to provide engineering and logístical support to the Royal Navy in maintaining Continuous at Sea Deterrent (CASD). This is achieved by ensuring at least one Vanguard Class submarine is on patrol at sea every day of the year.

HMNB Clyde has been the single operational home of the Submarine Service from 2020 and will become the United Kingdom’s Submarine Centre of Excellence. Creating this single integrated operating base is to ensure that the Royal Navy can deliver its operational commitments across all Defence Lines of Development from Scotland on an enduring basis.

Based within HMNB Clyde, Fleet Operational Sea Training Submarines (FOST SM) is charged with the corporate governance of the submarine training.

The post is a Civilian E1 grade and the position is advertised at 37 hours per week. The post holder will join the FOST SM Faslane Submarine Command Team Trainers (FasSCTT) department assisting the department deliver a mix of Individual and Sub-Team/Team shore training for Control Room, Ship Control and Weapon Operations Officers and Ratings. The Sonar Simulator Operator will operate the Sonar Simulation Desk of the Submarine Command Team Trainers.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
The post holder will have the exciting opportunity to join the Fleet Operational Sea Training organisation. As the Royal Navy embarks on a journey of unprecedented transformation, the role of Fleet Operation Sea Trainer (Submarines) Sonar Simulator Operator will ensure that the Submarine Service continues to maintain the high standards in operational training that it has enjoyed for over 120 years.

A strong team player, the successful applicant will require excellent communication and interpersonal skills, authoritatively working with a wide range of people. They must approach tasks flexibly and have an ability to effectively prioritise and handle their own workload. A close attention to detail is a must as is the ability to remain focused on the job at hand.

**Responsibilities**:
Primary functions are:
1. Work in conjunction with FOST SM staff & On-Site Maintenance Staff, to ensure that training scenarios are current, and the correct scenarios are loaded in the Submarine Command Team Trainers.

2. Assist in the Conduct of Session user checks and preparation of the trainer prior to the commencement of training.

4. Input and manipulate all major and minor contact levels as directed.

Secondary function, in the absence of FOST SM RN Staff:
1. Discuss training expectations and trainer capabilities with senior officer present if no FOST SM RN staff present and build scenarios as required to meet that aim.

2. To annotate Fin sonar with intensity levels as briefed by FOST SM RN staff.
