**SDL Solutions Limited** is seeking an exceptional **Software Development Lead**to be responsible for the successful delivery of software under the leadership of an experienced and conscientious engineer.

Experience and education

**The Software Development Lead will have experience in**:
Hands-on coding - ideally 10+ years in C#,.NET, SQL, HTML and Angular (or similar)

Web services and web standards

Relational database design

Building production critical software in a commercial environment, with weight given to relevant previous experience in the Financial Services sector

Mentoring or managing highly skilled, technical individuals

Agile software development cycle, working practices and principals

Role responsibilities

Software developer

**As a software developer, the Software Development Lead will**:
Continuously improve knowledge of software technology and tools

Be familiar with the code base, identifying limitations and areas for improvement

Develop an understanding of the business context in which the software is used

Plan, attend and contribute to team meetings

Mentor junior team members

Support, implement and maintain Information Security procedures and activities

Technical leadership

As a technical leader, the Software Development Lead will:
Lead by example on all aspects of software quality and software change management

Lead on architectural design and other hard-to-change engineering decisions

Set policies, standards and guard-rails for the team that are in line with shared policies and practices

Identify areas for improvement, share and promote ideas, and encourage innovation

Team leadership

As a team manager, the Software Development Lead will:
Develop the team’s ethos and ways of working

Set goals and inspire the team to meet them

Take responsibility for the team’s housekeeping, well-being and performance

Hire to meet the needs of the team

Nurture an environment in which professional development thrives and career’s progress

Stakeholder relations

As a key point of contact for the team, the Software Development Lead will:
Deliver software to the satisfaction of stakeholders

Build good relationships with stakeholders in other teams and departments

Work collaboratively with product and project teams in proposing and analysing the pros and cons of different approaches and development plans

Give stakeholders clarity of progress against plans and opportunities to feedback through the regular demonstration of working software

As required, present the team’s outputs and working practices to internal and external IT teams, governance teams and auditors

Abilities

The Software Development Lead will be able to:
Design software systems, having a good understanding of system architecture

Assess and promote all aspects of software quality including SOLID principles, clean tested code, usability, accessibility, resilience and performance

Communicate well and build engagement with both technical and non-technical audiences

Lead and motivate a team in a collaborative environment

Demonstrate good organisational skills
