Document Controllers working in construction companies ensure that project documents follow the Company's standards, stay maintained and accurate and are available to all employees, managers, customers, and sub-contractors who need them. They ensure that the preparation and management of documents and accurate information is distributed throughout the Company and its projects, on time, to the people who need it, in a timely manner, correct and efficiently. They control the numbering, sorting, filing, storing and retrieval of both electronic and hard copy documents produced by technical teams, project teams and departments.

The role also includes the technical documentation flow of the engineering, project management and construction teams in order to ensure that the control and dissemination of documents are in accordance with the Company standards, policies, processes, procedures and common engineering practices.

The Document Controller will mainly work with technical documents like drawings, technical submittals, RFI’s and reports and perform tasks such as uploading, editing, printing and the distribution of them. They will sort and store electronic and hard copy documents for customers, designers, surveyors, architects, sub
- contractors, and colleagues.

Their responsibilities also include keeping track of important project documents like project plans, programmes, drawings and Contracts; creating reports for project managers; keeping documentation safe and backed up; and performing data entry tasks when project documents need updates, printing out and distributing project documents to managers, customers, sub-contractors and team members; converting paper documents to an electronic format; keeping files and electronic folders organised by project and uniformly; documenting meetings and uploading documents to the web and project specific document control system platforms.

This clerical role requires someone with strong computer, communication, and organisational skills to work with documents, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and interact with the construction project teams.
