The Canteen provides work experience and training to learners aged 16-19 years old working towards a City & Guilds NVQ level 1 & level 2 qualification in Professional Catering & Hospitality. To develop their skills and build confidence, learners will assist in the running of The Canteen and The Event Space. As part of the role, you will support the Catering & Hospitality Manager to provide supervision to trainees overseeing daily tasks.
The main objectives of the role are:
- Responsible for the day-to day running of a city centre based café called The Canteen. This includes leading front of house, working to a budget and achieving financial targets set by the Catering & Hospitality Manager, marketing, delivering fantastic customer service, cashing up and supporting the kitchen team to provide quality food.
- To support learners in the café to gain valuable work experience whilst they study towards a city and guilds qualification in Professional Catering & Hospitality. This includes reporting attendance and setting expectations.
- To manage the café as well as all enquiries and bookings for outside catering and events whilst the Catering & Hospitality Manager is on leave.
- To assist the Catering & Hospitality Manager in the running of The Event Space. This includes setting up, facilitating and seeing out customers whom hire our space. You will also be involved with the booking & invoicing process, particularly when Catering & Hospitality Manager is on leave.
- To lock up and perform all closing checks, this involves lone working.
You must have at least 2 years experience working within the industry.
You must have a Level 1 qualification in food safety.
Barista trained essential.
Experience of working with young people desirable.
