**Shift Pattern**: Monday -Friday 9am-5pm

**Salary**: £35k-£40k per annum

**Are you a skilled SQL Server Database Administrator looking for a new challenge?**

Menzies Distribution have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator. The Database Admin role will cover the day-to-day administration, 3rd line support and project work for our SQL database environment. Ensuring system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements. This role will also provide guidance and support to the senior IT leadership team to set and then deliver the database roadmap, aligning to our business strategy.

**Responsibilities**:
**Strategy & Planning**:

- Drive the development of long-term strategic goals for our database platforms and middleware solutions.
- Propose and implement new procedures, systems, and solutions
- Technical lead for projects, proposing and implementing own projects when required
- Understand the licence model and look for savings and efficiencies
- Ability to engage with senior stakeholders within the business
- Ensure appropriate backup solutions and schedules are in place for database infrastructure
- Monitoring, improving, and maintaining our RPO / RTO objectives
- Day to day management of the SQL database systems
- Performance Tuning and Monitoring
- Storage and Capacity Planning
- Leverage 3rd party vendors/suppliers where applicable
- Liaise with internal clients to understand their needs and requirements
- Actively participate in team/business meetings
- Manage workstreams withing projects and programme of works.
- Follow ITIL framework - incident, change, and problem management
- Task and time management

**Excellent working knowledge of the following technologies / solutions**:
SQL Server 2016 and newer
- Disaster recovery and High availability techniques for SQL
- SQL monitoring and alerting tools
- Knowledge of hosting SQL in an Azure cloud environment would be beneficial

**Requirements**:
**Knowledge & Experience**:

- Positive and forward-thinking personality
- Experience working with a large-scale database environment
- Proven ability to transform database environments
- Performance Tuning & Scripting Skills on SQL server
- Hands-on experience implementing high available and replicated data systems
- Expert knowledge of database design, implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance
- Hands-on experience in troubleshooting complex issues
- Genuinely excited about IT and what can be achieved
- Enjoy working in a close knit and supportive team
- Microsoft qualifications are desirable
- ITIL qualifications are desirable
