As we celebrate Volunteers Week

Here at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, we are proud of our volunteers and the help and assistance they bring to our patients and staff.

We are looking to build our pool of volunteers to help support the NHS in such challenging times. If you are someone with a passion for the NHS, and the services we provide, and who can spare some of your time to support the care we provide to the people of Bolton and assist our brilliant staffwe would love to hear from you. Want to have more meaning in your life? Do you want to do something that is satisfying and of great service to your community? Then become a Hospital Volunteer.

As a Hospital Volunteer you will be providing a friendly and helpful welcome to patients, families and visitors to Bolton Hospital and to provide a general way finding service.

Volunteers are needed to provide a valuable resource, which enhances patient care by giving practical help and support to patients and staff, but does not replace the work of staff

The only qualification required is your desire to help someone in need and have a professional friendly attitude.

We ask volunteers to help for a minimum of fours hours a week and a minimum commitment for six months.

We provide all the training you need to volunteer, including an induction and informal, friendly support and supervision.

We are looking for volunteers to support a number of our departments;
Meet and greet patients, relatives and visitors at the hospital main entrance and other public areas, providing a friendly and polite welcome to the hospital.Direct or accompany patients, families and visitors to their appropriate destination in our main reception and Outpatients Department.

Help on our wards make and serve drinks.Lay tables, set up trolleys, serve meals, assist with hand washing before meals. Help to make up empty beds. Engage with patient by talking with them or helping with an activity, such as reading or playing games.

Be our meet and greet on pharmacy reception, taking in hospital prescriptions, issuing out pagers and making sure they are returned and kept clean.Communicate with other members of the pharmacy team.Answer telephones in the dispensary and direct calls to relevant staff.Fill bottles, boxes and other sundries that are used in the dispensing process

The aims of this Trust are to improve the health of our people and provide the best possible care to the population in which we serve and ensure that our staff have joy and pride in their work. We are striving to recruit volunteers that reflects the communities in which we serve. Staff and volunteers are valued and we can offer excellent opportunities for further training and development.

You will be required to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the desire to volunteer in a patient focussed environment. You will also need to have good organisational skills, with the ability to deal sensitively and confidently with people face to face.
