A Healthcare Assistant (HCA) provides essential support to nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals in delivering high-quality patient care. Responsibilities include assisting with daily activities, monitoring patient well-being, and ensuring a comfortable environment for patients.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- **Patient Care & Support**:
- Assist patients with personal care (e.g., washing, dressing, toileting).
- Help patients with mobility, including lifting, turning, and transferring.
- Support patients during meals, ensuring dietary needs are met.
- **Clinical Support**:
- Take and record vital signs (e.g., temperature, blood pressure, pulse).
- Assist in wound care and dressing changes under supervision.
- Support healthcare professionals during procedures.
- **Observations & Documentation**:
- Monitor and report changes in patients’ conditions to nurses or doctors.
- Maintain accurate records of patient care and observations.
- **Hygiene & Infection Control**:
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in patient rooms and wards.
- Follow infection control procedures to ensure a safe environment.
- **Communication & Emotional Support**:
- Provide emotional and social support to patients and families.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare teams and patients.
**Qualifications & Skills Required**:
- **Essential**:
- Compassionate and caring nature.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a team and under pressure.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- **Desirable**:
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of basic medical procedures.
- Moving and Handling within the last 12 months-evidence
**Working Conditions**:
- Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Physically demanding role involving lifting and standing for long periods.
- Exposure to patients with various medical conditions.
