The Staffordshire Training Hub (STH) is commissioned and funded by Health Education England on a not-for-profit basis and works closely with the Integrated Care System (ICS) and Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs).
Training Hubs present an exciting opportunity to develop sustainable solutions to ensure the local multi-professional workforce feels empowered, and has the necessary skills, competencies, resilience and confidence to deliver excellent patient care.
It provides a platform for workforce retention, education and training opportunities for all clinical and non-clinical General Practice staff within their local footprint. The objectives for the STH is to develop and support the General Practice short, medium and long-term workforce training, educational and retention needs.
**Job Purpose**
This post of Apprenticeship Facilitator in Primary care is to support the development and uptake of apprenticeships across Staffordshire Primary Care. The aim is to provide General Practices with the support to recruit, and develop apprenticeships across the primary care workforce, including administrative roles as well as clinical roles.
This specific position sits within the established Staffordshire Training Hub General Practice Nurse Facilitator (GPNF) team and will be responsible for all of the Staffordshire Primary Care Networks (PCNs).
The Apprenticeship Facilitator will need to engage with PCNs and Practices to support, promote, educate, and develop pathways for both existing workforce and new recruitment. They will encourage the development of apprenticeships whilst supporting Practices and PCNs through the process, including with the facilitation of placements where appropriate.
The role will work closely with the STH GPNF team and the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS) Facilitators to support and facilitate the necessary supervision and assessment criteria for the range of possible apprenticeship roles. The role will also require engagement and leading on relevant projects supported by the Staffordshire Training Hub.
The post holder will be an enthusiastic, locally connected individual with clinical experience coupled with excellent communication skills. They must be passionate for practice learning and assessment and hold a credible track record of excellence in teaching and learning.
Although the role in the main is non-clinical, there is an expectation that support and guidance will be given to both apprentices, practice supervisors and assessors when issues arise. Clinical knowledge will be used to provide advice, leadership and direction when situations or problems occur and in general day to day settings.
This position is suitable for portfolio working.
- To engage and build working relationships with PCNs and Practices to promote the clinical and non-clinical apprenticeship agenda and available opportunities
- Explore and build a portfolio of the apprenticeships schemes available to Primary Care, and possess the skills and ability to share this knowledge and resource with PCNs and Practices
- To promote Primary Care career pathways linking with HEIs and Further Education Providers (FEPs) as appropriate
- To provide and facilitate clinical supervision for multi-professional apprenticeship groups using digital technologies to promote attendance
- To provide support for clinical skills and academic teaching to apprentices in their work environment where appropriate
- To support and advise the existing workforce with becoming supervisors to support pre and post registration students but also the range of apprenticeship roles
- To support and advise PCNs and Practices to engage with the apprenticeship process to increase their intake
- To actively engage with local HEI and FEPs to contribute to the development of their Local Educational Quality Assurance Agendas and Protocols
- Explore and scope the training needs for individual Practices and PCN teams in relation to Apprenticeship uptake
- Work with the Staffordshire Training Hub leads and key stakeholders, FEPs and HEIs to develop new placement opportunities wherever possible, including non-traditional areas for apprentices
- To promote Primary Care careers as a viable choice for a range of roles in line with national guidance
- Active engagement and support of the regional conferences, Task and Finish groups and other events as applicable
- Work with the Staffordshire Training Hub and HEE project team in evaluation of the impact of the project through the submission of quarterly reports regarding Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Present written reports or verbal presentations to the Staffordshire Training Hub Board relating to apprenticeship development, uptake and success
