Your new role

As a Claims Manager you will be responsible for managing a team of Claims Handlers. You will offer guidance, support, expertise on claims for the team plus manage performance to ensure timely resolutions of the overall claims portfolio within the MidlandsRegion within legal frameworks.

The Network Claims Team comprises of Red Claims, where individuals/businesses claim against National Highways for damage to them personally or their vehicles as the result of defects on the Strategic Road Network and Green Claims where the Network is damagedby drivers/owners of vehicles. We are entitled to recover from the driver (or more usually the relevant insurance company) the diminution in value of our asset. It is essential that the Claims Manager has a detailed understanding of both types of claim.

What you’ll be leading on

Responsible for managing individuals within the Claims Team, providing full managerial support, performance evaluations, coaching and career development advice to develop and support a high performing team.
Using performance dashboards and tools to interpret team performance and implement plans to utilise resource in the most effective way. Presenting data at Regional Performance meetings across all of the network, completing actions arising.
Review cases put forward by Claims Handlers and with financial delegation ranging between £20k and £50k dependent on team and situation, taking recommendations from Claims Handlers on surrounding information and making decisions based on precedent and experienceto ensure the timely resolution for National Highways within legislation and guidance from experts.
Liaise closely with a range of stakeholders, including service providers, Traffic Officer service, ROC/RCC, inspectors, quantity surveyors/estimators, barristers, legal department, claimants, insurance providers to collate robust evidence to the support thetime resolution of claims.
Share findings across the department and across the business to influence best practice and continuous improvement, while ensuing a consistent approach to the management of claims.
Attend case conferences, providing evidence and reports to aid the decision making on complex cases.
Provide information to third parties to put forward our position or to bring resolution where it is being challenged.
To be successful

Experience of handling claims, including personal injury and damage to property through insurance claims process. Understanding of applicable case law.
Excellent people management skills, this will include performance management as well as support, guidance and development of team members and other colleagues across the wider team.
Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
Ability to build, and maintain, effective relationships with both internal and external customers / colleagues and to influence others to embed change.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
Competent IT skills, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
