**Directorate: People Services**
**Hours: 37 hours a week**
**Contract Type: Permanent**
**Location: The Council House**
We are looking for an enthusiastic member of staff who is able to work alone and as part of a highly motivated team of Family Workers within an Integrated Safeguarding Team of Social Workers.
Your role is important to the safeguarding of children and young people. Your observations of the interaction between children and their parents/carers during supervised Family Time and the recording that you will undertake is critical to the court process in which Social Work staff make plans for the permanence of children. You will have awareness of strength based approach working and writing to the child within records.
Within this role it is also crucial to have high standards of professionalism, organisation and communication skills. You will have an ability to work with other professionals and to promote good working relationships between yourself and parents. You will be able to evidence a high standard of written and verbal communication skills.
As part of your role you may are required to undertake some work within the community with parents/carers and children.
**It is essential that you have the use of a car.**
This exciting position requires individuals to work with social workers who have case responsibility and contribute with other professionals towards better outcomes for children.

**The Opportunity**
In the role of Family Worker, here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to make an impact:
You will be providing court ordered supervised or supported family time to children and their relatives in a family time room or in the community.
You will need to complete family time log recording of your observations, written to the child in line with our My Life My Journey, Equality, Diversity and Heritage Pledge and Strength Based Approach. These recordings could be used in Court therefore need to be accurate, balanced and evidenced by your observations and interactions with the individuals.
You will need to be able to work within a team of Family Workers and wider teams of Social Workers and Children’s Practitioners.
You will have the organisation and communication skills to be able to arrange child focused family time sessions with parents or carers taking into account the child’s individual needs.
You will be offered training to enhance your role.
You will need to confidently transport children and have knowledge of safe and appropriate transportation of children i.e. correct car seats etc.

**Essential Skills**:
Experience of direct work with children and families.
Experience of promoting children’s needs and working in partnership with their parents/carers.
Experience of providing care for others.
Good communication skills both written and verbal.
Ability to respond appropriately to resistant parents/service users to improve parenting skills and outcomes for children.
Ability to communicate and play with children - plan, implement and evaluate routines for children.
Full clean driving license is required with a car available for work.
**Desirable**:
Ability to work regularly evening and weekend work.
