The Diocese of Llandaff is the most populous of all six Dioceses of the Church in Wales. With over one million inhabitants, it covers much of South Wales, including the urban centres of Cardiff and Barry in the southeast, the Heritage Coast to the south, the South Wales Valleys in the north and the post-industrial regions of Neath and Port Talbot in the west.

We are a small team supporting clergy and volunteers across the diocese, with a friendly, welcoming, professional and willing attitude. We work closely together in cross-functional teams, with flexible times and locations according to where the diocese needs us.

**The overall purposes of this post are**, as the senior Communications Officer to the Diocese of Llandaff**:

- To develop and lead a Communications Strategy which supports and promotes the mission of the Church in Wales in the Diocese of Llandaff, as expressed in the diocesan vision _Where Faith Matters; _and connects with new and existing audiences and stakeholders on multiple platforms both internally and externally.
- To research, plan, implement and evaluate new ways of engaging and connecting people and organisations to the Christian Gospel, life and mission of the Church in Wales in the Diocese of Llandaff.
- To be responsible for outlining and communicating positive and engaging messages about the Church in Wales in the Diocese of Llandaff and beyond, to keep the Church engaged at county, regional and national levels across both Wales and the UK and ensuring it is seen as key to supporting, influencing and leading society at these levels.
- To support and equip Ministry Areas in their local communications in Welsh and English, advising on content, channels, tools and strategy for their communications, including events, social media, online, print, noticeboards and banners.
- To manage Communications modelling exceptional customer service, high performance and accountability, and ensuring oversight for professional and personal development within a positive and supportive culture.

**Main Responsibilities**
- To develop and deliver a strategy for the effective communication of the purpose and mission of the Church in Wales in the Diocese of Llandaff through its Vision
- To advise the Bishop and colleagues on how best to present their work and the wider mission of the Church across all media channels, using relevant and consistent messaging and platforms, and enabling the Church to engage effectively with contemporary culture
- To keep informed about new developments in communication and public relations and offer appropriate guidance to the Bishop and other senior figures within the Diocese

Media
- To ensure a multi-channel strategy and structure to communications including print, web, digital, online, social media and face-to face engagement, ensuring diocesan messages are consistent with provincial messages, advising and equipping Ministry Areas to ensure local messages are also consistent, and promoting an awareness of the potential national audience in Wales for local messages/work
- To maintain and develop a culture of good working relationships with local, regional and national media in Wales and wider UK regions. To respond to media enquiries on behalf of the Bishop, her staff team and colleagues. To coordinate press conferences, media interviews and photo calls, liaising as appropriate with the Provincial Director of Communications and the Bishop’s Chaplain
- To identify media opportunities and plan and deliver PR campaigns to promote the Diocese, its gospel vision and work regionally and nationally in Wales and wider UK together with effective public events that help the Church speak with an authentic and relevant voice in wider society.
- To oversee all corporate design, through the use of branding and the diocesan style guide, including overseeing the production of high-quality diocesan publications that reflect the strategic priorities of the organisation.
- To oversee the development and operation of effective digital, social media and online platforms and tools that assist the engagement of Church and society

Relationships
- To ensure internal communications are effective, including overseeing the production and content of regular print and digital publicationsand other social media/online resources, keeping clergy, office holders, members of our congregations, schools and staff informed of the latest good news stories, resources, support and strategic changes and updates within the Diocese and beyond.
