Border Force is a Law Enforcement arm of the Home Office. We are responsible for handling the UK border control by implementing immigration and customs regulations and working with the wider Home Office on counter terrorism, organised crime, modern slavery and trafficking. **Job description**:
The Operational Logistics (Op Lo) Directorate has been established to provide a national delivery model for front line logistics to Border Force (BF). The Command covers three primary areas, known as pillars which cover various work areas within Op Lo.

The pillars are:

- People - Health & Safety, Op Lo Spokes, Transformation, and the Secretariat.
- Infrastructure - Estates, National Frontier Approvals Unit (NFAU), Cyclamen Port Reconfiguration Team, the Queen’s Warehouse and Criminal Justice Unit (CJU).
- Services - Procurement, Contract Monitoring and Assets and Fleet.

Op Lo operates on a Hub & Spoke model. The Hub (pillars) provide centralised logístical expertise whilst directing out and fielding in requirements to Border Force frontline via the Op Lo Spokes. Op Lo Spokes are the Op Lo face to the frontline customers and field all customer requirements and enquiries.

There will be a requirement for regular travel to all ports across the Region including overnight stays and local port attendance current set at 40% of your time, as well as some travel across the UK and internationally. This role does not attract AHW payments.

**Person specification**:
You will be required to:

- Assist in developing and maintaining a positive professional relationship with senior managers in the Border Force Region or Headquarters.
- Assist in the reviewing and analysing of Management Information on Health and Safety issues, identifying trends and causes, recommending action where appropriate, and managing delivery or completion of action plans.
- Contributing to the development of Border Force Health and Safety procedures, guidance, and policies while addressing the risk profile within the Border Force Region and Headquarters.
- Line managing the relevant Regional Health and Safety team based in your Border Force Region (where appropriate).

**Essential criteria**
- Excellent communication skills to provide written and verbal advice and guidance, including drafting of reports and audits.
- Experience of demonstrating visible commitment, promoting the health and safety policy aims and objectives throughout their role.
- Ability to leading on Health and Safety matters, identifying issues, challenging behaviours and providing concise recommendations.
- Investigative mindset to be able to identify immediate, underlying and root causes of accidents and incidents.
- Able to conduct trend analysis of relevant Health & Safety data.
- Must be a competent organiser and a planner.
- Full valid UK Driving Licence.

**Desirable criteria**
- Experience in an operational Border Force, Law Enforcement or Military equivalent role.
- Accident investigation and/or audit qualifications:

- ISO 45001 Lead Auditor qualification.
- Accident Investigation Level 2 Certified by NEBOSH and the Health and Safety Executive
- Certificate in Education and training to level 3 or above.
- Personal Safety Training Level 2.

**Qualifications**

The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) General Certificate qualification (or willing to work towards).
