An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Health / Port Health Officer in our Food Safety team. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated team player to undertake the full range of duties in the team, working in a busy City environment.

Plymouth City Council’s Public Protection Service encompasses Environmental Health and Licensing. Officers work together with Public Health specialists focused on improving health inequalities in the city. You will complete a wide variety of work including food safety inspections and interventions across all risk categories, complex complaint and accident investigations, infectious disease and food borne disease investigations and sampling. You will provide professional business advice, support and training.

As part of Plymouth’s Port Health responsibilities, you will also issue ship sanitation certificates, export certificates and monitor shellfish beds and shipping movements.

You will inspect and investigate issues in licensed premises.

You will undertake enforcement action as appropriate and in line with the councils’ enforcement policy.

You will have proven oral and written communication skills, be able to work on your own as well as being a team player and be capable of managing a heavy and varied workload. Due to the diverse nature of the roles, some working unsociable hours will be required.
- A degree or equivalent in Environmental Health,
- A certificate of registration awarded by the EHRB, or its predecessor, or have completed the CIEH EHP Portfolio and professional discussion, and be eligible for admission on the (CIEH) Register of Environmental Health Practitioners
- Experience of food safety in a regulatory environment Applications will also be welcomed from enthusiastic Environmental Health Officers who hold an Environmental Health degree accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) and who are actively working towards completion of their CIEH EHP portfolio and professional discussion.

We will provide the support and opportunity to develop your professional skills and competencies across all intervention areas including pollution control, air quality, occupational health and safety, housing standards, food safety, and infectious disease to achieve this.

Pay awards will be linked to the successful completion of the portfolio and discussion.
