About me

I am a chronically ill and disabled woman working from home as an independent disability studies researcher. I live in Wisbech.

Hours and rate of pay

The post is for three days per week, every Mon, Weds and Fri afternoon, from 1.00pm - 6.30pm Mon & Weds, and 1.00pm -6pm Fri for a total of sixteen hours per week at an hourly rate of £11 per hour rising to £12.50 per hour after initial trial period. Occasional overtime is required, including annual leave cover of main support worker.

Initial training will require working additional hours with the main support worker. Permanent contract effective following a 3 month trial period.

What you would be doing

Support with general domestic activity including cooking, ironing, gardening and shopping. Support with outings and accompany to medical appointments, when the support worker is required to push me in the the wheelchair.

The person I would like

Trust, honesty and reliability are essential to the post. Past experience in home care is welcome and references are required. I am a large woman. The successful applicant will be able to push me in the wheelchair, and to physically transfer the wheelchair in and out of the car without difficulty. Must be a good communicator, with a good command of written and spoken English.

Someone who is versatile and can offer a variety of skill sets. Should be flexible as needs will change depending on my diary and commitments. Will be willing and able to push me in a wheelchair when out of doors, which is not necessary inside the home.

A keen sense of humour and a music appreciation are beneficial to the role, with the ability and conviction to develop a close working relationship being essential in what is a position of trust. Must be capable of working independently and in total silence within the home, which is my place of work. Must be comfortable working in a smoker’s home.

The successful applicant will have a genuine interest in the provision of high quality care, will be trustworthy and dependable. They will be motivated to develop trust and understanding within the role. In return there will be the opportunity to practice and improve skills, and to benefit from a fun working environment when I’m taking a break from my work.

Close attention to detail is essential, regarding not moving anything from where it is placed for my convenience due to my physical limitations.
