**Highways Liaison Coordinator**

This is a diverse and rewarding role, with key aspects including speaking to members of the public, businesses, and stakeholders about the schemes we are delivering, organising projects within the areas we are working, and helping to increase our social value activities.

**Main accountabilities**:

- To assist with the investigation and resolution of a wide range of highway management problems delivering solutions through the relevant programmes and initiatives, ensuring that costs are controlled, income is maximised, customer satisfaction is achieved and the key performance indicators for the business are met.
- Form constructive and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, encourage partnership working and promote Via and its highways services.
- To use initiative and judgement to overcome often-complex problems, including emergencies; where often there are no set procedures to follow to overcome potentially dangerous and hazardous situations on the highway.
- Taking of calls, co-ordinating and communicating urgent problems and issues on the Highway to Via’s Emergency Response Team to ensure the safety of the travelling public.
- Provide timely and informative responses in person or by other means of communication to both internal and external customers.
- Contribute to the development and control of an effective programme of scheme delivery within the allocated geographical area.
- Ensure that health and safety legislation, policy and best practice is fully complied with across the service and health and safety management across the company is supported.
- To support in the development of new business opportunities for the Highway Management Team to grow the service and improve the financial and reputational standing of the business by identifying potential customers and providing the link to Via’s Commercial Services

**Knowledge, skills and abilities**:

- Good interpersonal skills with a high level of personal drive. Acts as an advocate for change, projecting confidence about the future and building energy within the team.
- Some experience in a highway or civil engineering related field, or evidence of strong transferable skills.
- Proven experience in a highway or civil engineering related field, or evidence of strong transferable skills
- A high level of competency to deal with difficult customers on the telephone or face to face.
- Demonstrates flexibility and can adapt thinking to meet the changing business needs.
- The ability to investigate issues from all viewpoints to achieve positive outcomes.
