Carers Support West Sussex provides services for and with unpaid carers who look after a relative or friend who could not manage without their support. Our teams provide tailored information, advice and support to help improve carers’ resilience and ensure they are supported to maintain their caring roles.

We are currently offering an exciting new role to reach out and connect with organisations across West Sussex to work collaboratively to reduce barriers that some carers from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities may face in accessing support.

You will have experience of working with diverse communities and knowledge of the challenges facing carers from diverse and underserved communities, with the ability to identify and address their individual and collective needs.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills, able to advocate for people, communicate clearly and with cultural sensitivity to a diverse audience of service users.

Your role will involve increasing a sense of connection to Carers Support among carers from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities through the development of volunteering and carer champion opportunities.

This is a 2-year fixed term contract within the Engagement and Volunteering Team. You will be predominantly working from home and will be readily able to travel across the county of West Sussex for meetings and engagement events.

**Job Role**:
**Purpose**
- Work collaboratively to reduce barriers that some carers from diverse backgrounds may face in accessing support. Including, but not limited to: Refugee & Asylum Seekers, Veterans, Gypsy & Travelers, Ethnically Diverse and LGBTQ+.
- Actively engage with local services, community organisations and professionals who support diverse communities, to build effective partnerships that promote awareness and support for unpaid family and friend carers.
- Co-design materials and engagement opportunities relevant to the diverse and underserved communities in West Sussex making sure our services are visible and accessible to individuals.
- Serve as an internal point of contact for our team, providing support and advice to colleagues who are working with carers from diverse communities.

**Experience & Skills**
- Experience of working with diverse communities
- Able to work collaboratively, connect and build positive relationships
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to speak fluently in a language from the local community (e.g., Arabic, Farsi, French Creole, Hindi, Punjabi, Turkish, Urdu). Desirable but not essential
- Experience in delivering training to a range of professionals and local community groups.
- Able to work autonomously when required.
- Highly competent in use of IT
- Ability to readily travel, including rural locations and out of office hours.
