**Overview**

The Finance Controller plays a pivotal role in keeping a company’s financial reporting, financial planning, debt financing and budget management organised. They are one of the most important staff members in a business, as their skills allow the CFO to focus on taking the business further.

This is an outline of the core responsibilities, required skills and behaviours of a Finance Controller. This is not an exclusive list and other activities may be required to ensure the organisation successfully meets its goals.

**Roles and Responsibilities**
- Implementing and documenting financial processes and controls
- Working closely with Finance Director to prepare annual budget
- Updating and maintaining key financial KPIs in excel
- Monthly consolidation of group financial statements including cash flow statements
- Helping prepare month end financials for board pack
- Managing day to day purchase ledger, sales ledger, cash book and nominal ledger
- Prepare accruals, prepayments and revenue recognition and other month end close processes
- Preparing schedules and supporting documents for the annual audit
- Preparing rolling cash flow forecasts for the group
- Compile key SaaS business metrics and report to management
- Covering for Chief Financial officer when not in the office
- Ad hoc projects for Chief Financial Officer

**Knowledge Skills and Experience**
- Qualified Accountant (ICAEW/ CIMA/ACCA)
- Strong Excel skills
- Attention to detail
- Experience working for SME (under £10m turnover, 100 employees)
- Advanced excel user
- XERO experience preferable
- Experience of working in a software company

**Personal Qualities and Requirements**
- Technically strong, self-motivated with good communication & organisational skills
- Proactive with lots of initiative and a hands-on approach
- Positive, enthusiastic and have a good sense of humour
