- Job description- This exciting opportunity will suit someone with experience of tackling crime, dealing with criminal investigations and submitting casefiles, using an intelligence-led approach to detect and deal with fisheries offences.
As an FEO, you will hold an authorisation under the Salmon & Freshwater Fisheries Act 1975, conferring a wide range of enforcement powers and responsibilities and demanding high standards of professional conduct. You will need to complete an appropriate conflict resolution course to obtain and maintain this authorisation.
You will plan and undertake high impact fisheries enforcement and rod licence checks across the catchment and to enforce legislation concerning illegal fishing and fish movements. You will attend reported incidents of illegal activity, using your excellent influencing and communication skills to promote our work and deal with hostile situations. You'll liaise with colleagues, police and partners, using your initiative to target, disrupt and take action against crime. You'll collect evidence, interview suspects and prepare casefiles/develop actions to disrupt illegal activities.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team- You will join other Fisheries Enforcement Officers in the Area Fisheries, Biodiversity & Geomorphology Team in East Anglia area, undertaking all aspects of fisheries enforcement work in the River Great Ouse catchment.
To achieve our aims, we work closely with regulatory and specialist technical teams across the Area and with enforcement, fisheries and intelligence colleagues in other Areas and Nationally. We also routinely work with external enforcement bodies.
- Experience/skills required- You will possess:
- A keen interest in, and knowledge of, fisheries, angling, regulation & enforcement;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and organisational skills;
Confidence dealing with hostile situations and ability to manage your own health and safety and that of others;
A proven ability to complete tasks accurately with minimum supervision, either working individually or as part of a team;
A full UK driving licence and ability to swim;
