Dorward House has been providing care since 1839, and we believe, it's the small things that can often make the biggest difference. We care for 40 older adults and we believe they should have the very best, we can offer. As our Cook you will play an important role in our busy care home, ensuring at every mealtime, we offer a range of well presented, healthy, balanced meals which our residents look forward to, and enjoy eating. We are looking for someone with a creative, caring nature. Someone who will be energetic, a friendly team player, with good organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure. You will be required to supervise, lead and motivate, our small, established kitchen team and you must have a good awareness of the relevant legislation. You need to demonstrate compassion and empathy and have a genuine desire to work with our residents and include them in menu planning and new ideas.
Your role:
- To have a minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role. To have good communication skills.
- A can-do attitude and a good work ethic.
- Have a current food hygiene certificate and a good understanding of current environmental health legislation.
- Be flexible.
- Create a varied, appetising and nutritional menu, in line with individual dietary needs and preferences.
- Work with our care team to provide high quality meals.
- Prepare, cook and serve food to meet our residents’ dietary requirements.
- Manage all mandatory paperwork including, adhering to HACCP and all current food legislation, company policies and procedures, budgets, staff rota, overseeing and completion of cleaning schedules, managing orders and deliveries
- Catering for special events or seasonal activities, such as coffee afternoons, meetings, Christmas parties and birthdays.

Working as the cook at Dorward House, you will have the chance to deliver hotel standard food, without the split shifts, long weeks and unsociable hours. You will work alternate weekends, 9.00am - 5.00pm, 37.5 hours a week. Rate of Pay £12.50 per hour.
