Sexual and Reproductive Health Consultant

An opportunity for a consultant position (8PAs) has become available within the Somerset-wide Integrated Sexual Health (SWISH) service based in Taunton. The post holder will complement the existing multi-disciplinary team and to further develop our services.
The successful appointee will lead on the provision of long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) services including complex LARC service provision, staff, GP and other health professionals’ LARC training pathways across primary and secondary care, PGDs and other responsibilities according to person qualification and clinical expertise. The post holder will be encouraged to pursue further training in psychosexual medicine and other areas of specialist interest.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to work with an enthusiastic and dedicated multidisciplinary team, providing high quality integrated sexual health services within Somerset. As well as taking pride in caring for our patients, we also prioritise taking care of our employees. You will be part of a dynamic team who understand the challenges of working in the SWISH department and the importance of supporting each other.
The SWISH main hub, where you will be based, is situated in Taunton, Somerset. As a service, we also hold clinics in community hospitals across the Southwest. On average the service sees almost 18,000 attendances a year with males accounting for 33% of all attendees.
**Duties include**:
- Work flexibly, independently and as part of the team
- Deliver and lead contraception and complex LARC service
- Provide medical support and advice to nurse led clinics
- Develop skills in line with the changing needs of the service
- Take part in audit, research and training as appropriate
Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is the first NHS trust on the English mainland to provide community, mental health and acute hospital services. We work with health and social care partners in Somerset to ensure that we deliver outstanding services that meet the needs of our population.
Our trust was formed on 1 April 2020 when Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust merged.
