The role of the Strategic Buyer is responsible for the development and execution of strategies to ensure the best possible purchasing processes, observation of markets and decisions on which suppliers to work with within HYDRO. The role will be responsiblefor the development and maintenance of the global supplier portfolio and for vendor and Contract Management.
**Reporting Structure**:
The Strategic Buyer will report directly into the HYDRO KG Head of Supply Chain Management Tooling. This role may also receive guidance and professional instructions from the HYDRO UK Operations Director and HYDRO SG Supply Chain Manager.
**Management Responsibility**:
The post holder will be asked to supervise trainees, placements, and lower skilled personnel. This may include the provision of guidance, basic training and communicating best practice.
**Accountabilities**:
- Relationships with key suppliers
- Supply market analysis
- Vendor and contract management
- Risk management
- Commodity management
- Achievement of best possible cost savings while ensuring the most beneficial supply base for the company
**Key Tasks & Responsibilities**:
- Overall global responsibility for the strategic purchasing process “Source to Contract” for one of the HYDRO Business Units
- Search, qualify and develop suppliers together with relevant departments
- Develop product group strategies and implement them in consultation with the Business Units
- Sustainably control supplier relationships in a predominately oligopolistic market
- Negotiate contracts and prices based on open calculation, lead time, landed cost and total cost of ownership with focus on projects
- Be an interface between the Business Unit and ensure early involvement of strategic buying and suppliers into all relevant internal and external project activities
- Work with suppliers to agree corrective actions to resolve escalated issues or look for alternative suppliers when necessary
- Prepare analysis and statistics to control and support the sourcing strategy and the strategic planning
- Contribute to the definition, drive implementation and execute the company’s supply chain strategy (improve APAC content)
- Ensure establishment of a competitive global supply chain which provides for sustainable reductions of total cost and which integrates seamlessly into the purchasing and production assembly processes
- Ensure the availability of up to date supply market information
- Any other reasonable duties as assigned by the HYDRO KG Head of Supply Chain Management Tooling
**Process Responsibility**:
- Work according to defines supply chain processes and use the tolls listed in these processes
- Supplier qualification and selection: Contributed to supplier development, qualification and evaluations within cross functional teams
- Vendor Management: Build up and maintain global supplier portfolio. Execute suppler performance management
- Contract Management: Create and maintain global contract system which covers all type of suppliers. Store contracts systematically
**Key Skills and experience**:
- 5-10 years’ experience within a strategic procurement role
- Experience of working in an aero or engineering industry
- Global sourcing experience (APAC)
- Proven experience in supplier qualification, auditing and corrective action processes
- Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply Chain qualification (CIPS) or similar qualification essential
- Experience in SAP/R3
- Must have analytical and systematic thinking in networks
- Project Management capabilities
- Strong negotiation skills
- Ability to work independently with drive to accomplish tasks
- Great team spirit
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential
- Must hold a valid UK/EU passport and be able to travel as required
