ROLE: Respite Day Centre Support Worker

**Salary**: £13 per hour

Location: Lawrence Weston Community Farm

Hours: Mondays 9:45 - 2:15pm

Job description

As a Support Worker you will be required to work in a team at our Respite Day Centres and offer support to people living with dementia and their caregivers.

Our Community Respite Day Centers offer a safe and compassionate environment where our clients enjoy good company, take part in tailored activities designed around their own capabilities and interests, and have fun with our intergenerational events with local schools.

They are a haven for anyone living with dementia or living in isolation and struggling to make sense of the world. They give caregivers respite in the knowledge that their loved one is being looked after and living the best life they can in the moment.

Key tasks and responsibilities
- Supporting our clients attending the Respite Day Centres
- Escorting clients on transport to and from the day centre or at activity locations
- Delivering a range of day-to-day activities to our clients
- Offering compassionate and dignified support to our clients and their caregivers
- Providing companionship, reassurance and empathy
- Supporting our clients caregivers and giving feedback
- Keeping all areas of the Respite Day Centre well maintained and free of obstacles
- Working as a team and taking part in tailored activities designed around our clients capabilities and interests
- Support our clients in helping them to improve their physical and mental wellbeing, and to maintain their independence and quality of life
- Staying up to date with training
- Reporting any ideas or improvements to be made at the Respite Day Centre

Support Worker essential criteria
- Compassionate, kind, patient, and understanding
- Active, flexible and reliable
- Enthusiastic, sensitive, and trustworthy
- The ability to demonstrate initiative
- A passion for working closely with people
- Good level of written and spoken English
- Understanding the need for confidentiality
- Responsive and able to respond to different and sometimes difficult situations
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Regulatory requirements
- Eligible to work in the UK
- Clean driving license and access to a vehicle as we do offer our clients a transport service
- Enhanced DBS Check (provided free)
- Up to date with appropriate vaccinations (COVID)

Desirable requirements
- Previous experience in a similar caring role
- First Aid
- Health and Social Care awareness/training
- Dementia Awareness

Training

All support workers undergo mandatory Induction training, which includes:

- Health and Safety
- Dementia Awareness
- Data Privacy
- Safeguarding

The training offered will depend on the individuals’ previous experience and skills.
