The Redesign of Colorectal Services (RCS) is a proof of concept aiming to ensure all patients with suspected abdominal cancer to be referred to a rapid access assessment and diagnostic service (excluding Urinary and Gynae)
As part of the RM Partners 2WW Upper & Lower GI, St Marks Trust is one of only 2 sites to be funded by NHS England to evaluate the proof of concept with the aim of scalability across west London
The purpose of this role is to support the 2WW Redesign of GI services in designing and implementing early diagnostic pathways for patients with suspected cancer. This role has been specially designed to support the newly designed pathway and will require the post holder to evolve to support the pathway as it continues to refine over time.
You will be responsible for the quality check of GI referrals ensuring that all relevant information is present before the clinical triage takes place. You will liaise with the GP practices and any other services to ensure that all relevant information is collated. You will be required to work across a range of IT systems to coordinate the booking of patient appointments.
The post holder will work both directly and indirectly with patients and their carers to assist in coordinating the care of patients through their hospital care journey, providing the patient with the relevant information and coordinate any test preparations that need to be sent or collected by the patient
The post will require the coordination of appropriate services to maximise the delivery of the streamlined diagnostic pathways, thereby improving the quality and experience for patients and their careers and diagnosing cancer earlier.
It is expected that the post holder can work autonomously, using their own initiative and within a specialised team.
The post holder is expected to be a highly experienced within the hospital administrative setting with knowledge and evidence of specialised terminology, educated to a level required to perform the role or equivalent experience.
The post holder will actively support & contribute to the requirements of the service and ensure compliance to the targets and standards required at a local and national level. There is a need to be actively involved & contribute professionally in QA activities.

- Coordinate colorectal referrals through a single point of access into the Trust.
- To be proficient in all IT systems relevant for the role.
- To assess the referrals and ensure all relevant information is present and where further information is required to coordinate its timely collation.
- To work alongside Pathway Admin Support Officer to be a single point of liaison for referrals, booking and coordination of patient test preparation.
- To work seamlessly with the GI project team.
- To ensure that the provisions of appropriate services at the right time and in the right place are available for patients and to have the knowledge to signpost patients as required.
- To work alongside Pathway Admin Support Officer to be a single point of contact for patients, carers and the healthcare team - triaging sensitive enquiries and referring to the appropriate department within the hospital or community setting.
- Provide early detection of problems.
- Actively participating in the provision of routine non-clinical information and advice for patients and carers.
- Document and monitor all aspects of patient care coordination and service delivery onto the Trust IT system.
- To access and input confidential patient information through integrated databases in accordance with the agreed policy and procedure.
- Supporting data collection for audit purposes and quality assurance.
