**An Apprenticeship with DACHSER is the Key to a Prosperous Future**

Dachser UK, a subsidiary of the international German logistics provider, is firmly committed to the ongoing training of employees in all areas of its operation.

Here, Dachser UK’s HR Manager, Rachel Bussey, explains some of the details of the training programmes she and her department have implemented to both motivate and improve the skill levels of staff. These efforts are fundamental to the Company’s ongoing success and development throughout its UK operation.

The apprenticeship scheme is now in its 15th year and has grown significantly during this time. The programme has seen many changes due, in part, to the demands of the industry, but also recognising and understanding what young people are really looking for in relation to an alternative to university and a clearly-defined career path in logistics. This aspect is vital, as our apprentices are guaranteed a permanent position on successful completion.

In 2018, we successfully recruited six talented individuals on the new International Freight Forwarding apprenticeship scheme, and 2019 will see a further 10 new starters on the programme.

We are always looking for future managers and will continue to focus on delivering the best apprenticeship opportunities available.

**What is it?**
The International Freight Forwarding apprenticeship at NVQ level 3 is a two-year programme incorporating customs procedures as well as all the logistics operational and financial functions. The British International Freight Association (BIFA) and its educational programme also have a big influence over our training, as the apprentices are also studying towards a B-TEC qualification with them as part of the scheme.

**What happens after the 2 years?**
Dachser’s commitment to continuous learning means that there are also opportunities to further develop after the initial apprenticeship through progression onto the NVQ level 5. Other apprenticeships available are our ‘Warehouse to Wheels’, based at our Rochdale branch, which focusses on training home-grown driver talent. We also run Warehousing and Storage NVQ level 2 and Business Administration NVQ level 3 apprenticeships.

The entry level requirement for the International Freight Forwarding apprenticeship is an education to A-level standard.

For the other apprenticeships, a good level of education is essential.
