The Home Office is here to make the UK safer. Border Force is a Law Enforcement arm of the Home Office with primary responsibility for UK Border Security, including counter terrorism, immigration and customs matters.

We are responsible for handling the UK border control by implementing immigration and customs regulations and working with the wider Home Office on counter terrorism, organised crime, modern slavery and trafficking. Border Force has five operational regions in the UK: North, Central, Heathrow, South and South East & Europe. **Job description**:
The Commercial Vessel Rummage Training (CVRT) team was established in 1987. Since then the team has continued to provide instruction on commercial vessel search and occupational safety. As CVRT Border Force Higher Officer (BFHO) you will write, evaluate and teach learning products related to ship’s search that will assist the employer in developing staff that have the attitudes, skills and behaviours necessary to work effectively and safely in this potentially hazardous environment. The role offers you an opportunity to work as part of a small team with international renown and remit. You will be skilled in the use of airline breathing apparatus and industrial rope access equipment and will be confident in devising bespoke solutions to enable Border Force’s work to be completed safely and efficiently on large ships.

The role is one of operational search and operational training on live commercial vessels in the Port of Liverpool, around the UK and if required, abroad. The CVRT are part of the National Deep Rummage Team command, part of Maritime Command which includes the Border Protection Squadron (Cutters and Coastal Patrol Vessels).

You will be required to teach:

- Commercial Vessel Rummage Training - focus on technical search e.g. engine room..
- Dock & Shipboard Health & Safety Awareness - mandatory occupational safety training.
- Rummage Foundation - four-day introductory ship search event.
- Working at heights - instruction in the use of rope access equipment and rope rescue.
- Airline breathing apparatus.

Please note the successful applicant will be expected to complete a medical examination to check their overall fitness, and an eyesight test, and this will be conducted every 12 months as a pass or fail examination in order to use the breathing apparatus equipment.

Applicants will be aware that medical screening is required to attend the Personal Safety Training. Once qualified, officers are required to attend a 2-day refresher course once a year and to carry their Personal Protective Equipment (including handcuffs, baton and notebook) as appropriate when on duty.

A Full valid UK Manual Driving Licence is required for this role, as it requires travel throughout the UK to a variety of locations. A CVRT BF HO is required to drive official vehicles - both cars and large vans - and complete additional driver tests or training, if needed. The post will require the successful applicant to drive official vehicles as part of day to day duties. This will include driving within port areas and between ports across the UK.

**Responsibilities**:

- Understand legislation pertinent to occupational safety in the port and maritime environment and/or be willing to undertake study for NEBOSH General Certificate within two years, if not already held.
- Commit to achieving an NVQ Level 3 Award in Education and Training, if not already held.
- Be willing to study and pass manufacturers courses in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Inspection, working at heights, confined space rescue and airline breathing apparatus. First Response Emergency Care (Medical) training will be provided if not already held. These qualifications will need to be maintained for the duration of your time on the team.
