An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time, permanent Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist working in the Learning Disability Forensic Mental Health Service based at The Oxford Clinic, Littlemore Hospital. This post would be suitable for a dysphagia qualified and experienced Band 5 who is looking to develop their skills.

You will provide in-depth speech and language therapy assessment and treatment to the forensic mental health service. This will be predominantly based on the medium secure learning disability ward with adults with learning disabilities and mental health conditions. You will be closely linked to the SLT service in Adult Learning Disabilities and so will have regular access to support and supervision from a Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist in that team. Alongside providing assessment and intervention for adults on inpatient forensic wards with communication and dysphagia needs, you will be expected to offer routine dysphagia assessment to adults in the community Learning Disabilities service (up to the equivalent of one day per week).

To independently manage a mixed communication and dysphagia caseload, providingassessment and intervention of communication and swallowing disorders for clients across theForensic learning disability service area. This will include people with learning disabilities,behaviours that challenge and mental health conditions.

To be responsible for diagnosing, developing, implementing and monitoring appropriatepackages of care for this caseload in a variety of settings. Includes assessing for, acquiring andadvising on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and liaising with the ACE
centre (regional AAC service)

To provide routine dysphagia assessment to adults with LD in the community.

To actively contribute to a variety of multidisciplinary meetings e.g. Clinical Team meetings, Care programme approach (CPA) and Care and Treatment Review (CTR)
