Customers and Engagement Specialist
We believe the climate emergency to be the ‘Main Thing’. Everything we do to protect and enhance our environment and wildlife depends on how we adapt to the changing climate.
This role has been established as part of the Lower Otter Restoration Project that recently featured on BBC Countryfile. It forms part of the internationally funded programme for Promoting Adaption to Changing Coasts (PACCo).
This role focusses on the need to think and act differently to manage the adaptation of our coastline in response to climate change. Although important to actively manage this to ensure the best outcomes for people and wildlife, it can also pose challenges for our communities.
Working closely with colleagues you will support all aspects of the scheme, engaging with key communities and stakeholders, and organising events. You will support proactive communications with stakeholders to improve understanding and commitment to manage the impacts of climate change to ensure the best outcome for both people and communities and the environment.
You will work closely with area teams to plan our strategic direction and support our partners both internally and externally. There will be a requirement to attend site at East Devon at times.
The team
Our Customers and Engagement team works across our whole organisation to deliver excellent customer service to the Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Area. We manage a diverse range of requests from active and informed customers. The team plays an important role in managing relationships that are essential to our reputation and business delivery; and in providing support and guidance to our area teams and the Area Leadership Team including the Area Director.
Experience/skills required
You will need demonstrable experience in delivery of communications and engagement and be confident in a community setting. You will support the coordination of all aspects of communications and engagement for this project, as well as delivering the communications and engagement strategy.
You’ll have proven ability of:
- Communication skills: able to produce high quality plain English letters, and engagement materials; be able to listen and negotiate; and show judgement and tact when dealing with challenging situations.
- Proven successes by building and coordinating relationships with internal and external customers and partners.
- Plan and execute successful events
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Able to work effectively independently and as part of a team
- A positive, proactive, and hard-working attitude
- Expert knowledge of our Working with Others approach
Contact and additional information
As a senior member of the Customers & Engagement Team you will be expected to provide coaching and mentoring support to the team. You will also be required to support our communications and engagement for all aspects of Environment Agency work during incidents.
Diversity: it’s in our nature.
