**Overall Purpose of the Role**:
To be responsible for supporting the SEND Department with SEND pupils.
**Key responsibilities**
- Supporting the senior leadership team and staff in implementing a vision for excellence by providing a level of service to all stakeholders based on high standards.
- Supporting the senior leadership team and colleagues in creating a climate hospitable to education in order that safety, a co-operative spirit and other foundations of fruitful interaction prevail.
- Cultivating leadership in others so that students and colleagues assume their parts in realising the school vision.
- Providing a level of service which enables teachers to teach and students to learn.
- Provide a high standard of support and care for SEND students and their families
**Additional duties**
- Provide support for students with special education and disability needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
- Establish constructive relationships with students and interact with them according to individual needs.
- Encourage students to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
- Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence.
- Adapt or modify materials and resources to ensure full access to a broad and balanced curriculum.
- Support the students as part of a planned inclusion programme and provide intervention strategies and programmes as requested.
- Deliver intervention and support strategies for specific students as directed by the teacher.
- Provide feedback to students in relation to progress, achievement and attainment under guidance of the teacher.
- Assist with the development and implementation of Educational Health Care Pans/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes.
- Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of students’ work.
- Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on student’s achievement, progress and issues in a suitable format.
- Provide advice and support to teachers and other support staff as the most effective methods of support for students with learning needs.
- Liaise with the complex needs service as requested to receive and disseminate advice given to effectively support the students across curriculum areas.
- Monitor students’ responses to learning activities and take responsibility for accurately recording achievement/progress and reviewing records and systems as directed.
- Promote good student behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage students to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
- Liaise sensitively and effectively with parent/carer(s); and participate in feedback with parent/carer(s) under the teacher’s supervision.
- Assist the SENDCO in the development, monitoring and review of the students EHCP.
- Support the teacher by contributing to the delivery of local and national learning strategies and recording achievement, progress and providing feedback to the teacher.
- Attend specific training and meetings as and when required or requested by the SENDCO.
- Provide clerical/admin. Support e.g. photocopying, typing, filing, money, administer coursework invigilation of routine tests and examinations as required.
- Undertake structured and agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to student responses.
- Undertake programmes linked to local and national learning strategies e.g. literacy, numeracy, reading strategies, recording achievement and progress and feeding back to the teacher.
- Prepare, maintain and use equipment/resources required to meet the lesson plans/relevant learning activity and assist students in their use.
- Be aware of and support difference and ensure all students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
- Accompany teaching staff and students on visits, trips and out of school activities as required and take responsibility for a group under the supervision of the teacher
- Participate in supervisory duties in accordance with the duty rota schedules to support the culture within the organisation.
**Accountability and Relationships with others**:
Participate in the Performance Management Cycle and INSETs.
- Make best use of all resources ensuring inventories are accurate and up to date.
- Participate in the induction of new staff into the Academy.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school and its community.
- Maintain good working relationships with colleagues, students, parents/carers, governors, the community and Local Authority and ensure all communication is consistent with the school’s ethos.
- Adhere to the Academy dress code.
- Adhere to and promote all Trust and academy policies and codes of conduct.
- Carry out any such duties as may be reasonably required by the Chief Executive and Principal.
