Health and Wellbeing Lead

Delivery of a Nurse lead Occupational Health Service, including sourcing and contract
management of wider OH services including Occupational Health Physician and
other OHP providers.
Provision and co-ordination of the University’s wellbeing action plan and delivery of
Occupational Health services.
Delivery of educational and prevention workshops and wellbeing initiatives to
improve the health and wellbeing of the workforce.
Provision of advice and guidance on physical and psychological issues for specific
individual cases, and delivery of an efficient and effective Occupational Health
service provision to include management and self-referrals, pre-employment.
**Key Responsibilities**
**and Accountabilities**:
- Lead the University’s approach to ensuring the wellbeing of the workforce,
including setting out the wellbeing plan and leading focus groups to ensure
its effective delivery.
- Be a visible champion for positive health and wellbeing throughout the
University, leading initiatives, and workshops to improve the health and
wellbeing of the workforce.
- Lead the development of the university’s wellbeing awareness annual
calendar.
- Use data and insight to target wellbeing interventions and measure
success / improvement.
- Support on the review and updating of key health and wellbeing policy
and procedure, ensuring processes are efficient and effective, legally
compliant and in line with best practice.
- Design and deliver engaging and creative wellbeing projects and
interventions to support mental, physical, and financial wellbeing.
- Oversee the local implementation of health and wellbeing actions
identified from the People Plan, providing feedback to the Employee
Relations and Wellbeing Manager on any areas of improvement or
potential conflict with business requirements.
- Support the design and delivery of training and wellbeing support
interventions to upskill and build competency across the University.
- Support the coordination of submissions for health and wellbeing related
awards and schemes, as appropriate.
- Contribute to HR projects and working groups as appropriate.
- Undertake continuous professional development to ensure knowledge
of legislation and best practice in health and wellbeing.
- Act as an ambassador for the University and the HR team and role
model the University values.
- Undertake case management in person / online, producing high
standard and quality management advice reports.
- Undertake pre-employment and fitness for work/fitness for task
screenings.
- Advise staff on their physical and mental health, including referral and
signposting options.
- Support managers in managing employee restrictions, ensuring
appropriate working arrangements and reasonable adjustments are
considered.
- Support the development and periodic review of occupational health
processes and systems.
- Coordinate the delivery of an appropriate health surveillance programme
for staff, helping with early identification.
- Lead the introduction of health case meetings with guidance procedure.
- Lead the Introduction of a robust approach around occupational health self
- referrals.- Lead on developing the current health surveillance programme.
- Lead on developing a staff work vaccination with Newcastle OH NHS
- Services.- Lead and kept under review all OH contracts working with colleagues in Legal
- Services.- Lead, contribute to or co-ordinate HR projects or University working groups
- as appropriate, in line with strategic objectives and the People Plan.- Represent the University and establish and maintain effective working
relationships with peer groups, key internal and external colleagues,
stakeholders and external bodies and organisations, as appropriate.

- Qualified Nurse on the NMC Register.
- Occupational Health qualification (Degree, Diploma).
- Registered Nurse on the NMC register.
- Occupational Health qualification (Degree, Diploma or certificate) or strong
occupational health experience and knowledge.
**Knowledge and Experience:
- Significant occupational health experience and knowledge.
- An understanding of current trends in occupational health and wellbeing
- and best practice in the sector and beyond.- Experience of developing wellbeing activities and health promotions.
- IT and numeracy skills including ability to use Microsoft Office- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Evidence of recent and relevant CPD activity.
- Personal presence, resilience, and credibility with a track record of using
- influencing skills to achieve positive results.- A good level of relevant digital and IT skills for the role including
competence in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
