Gardener

As a Gardener, you’ll be a hands-on member of the garden team involved in every aspect of gardening at Charlecote Park. Responsible for day-to-day maintenance, and the highest standards of horticulture, you’ll also play a vital role in improving the experience of visitors to the garden and wider estate.

You may be asked to work occasional weekends, bank holidays and evenings.

What it's like to work here:Led by the Garden and Outdoors Manager, you'll be joining the Park and Garden team which consists of an Area Ranger, Assistant Ranger, and two Gardeners, along with an enthusiastic and hard-working team of volunteers. The property is open 7 days a week, so rotas are managed in advance to ensure cover everyday; this means there will be regular weekend and bank holiday working, shared amongst the team. Hours usually consist of 8.30am - 4.30pm, but this can vary slightly at different times of year. It's a fun and hard-working team to be part of; no two days are the same, and there's always something to get involved in.

What you'll be doing:You'll be helping to keep the garden in tiptop condition every day. This might involve daily checks to make sure all areas are safe for people visiting, routine tasks such as weeding, pruning and mulching, and using machinery such as hedge cutters, leaf blowers, lawnmowers and other garden vehicles. The team are also responsible for the wider estate, so you will be involved in regular checks of the parkland and feeding livestock. You'll regularly supervise and work alongside volunteers.

Other duties might include propagation, tree safety work and garden design and restoration **. **You may be involved in recycling and managing waste, along with the rest of the garden team.

You'll also be part of our duty management team. You'll be responsible for ensuring the property is able to open to visitors safely and that operations are running as smoothly as possible to ensure a high level of service. This involves giving a briefing to other staff members, co-ordinating and responding to issues during the day, and acting as a First Aider. Full training will be provided, and this role is performed on a rota basis along with the wider team.

Who we're looking forWe'd love to hear from you if you’re:

- an enthusiastic horticulturist and hands-on gardener, who’s worked with hard landscaping before
- knowledgeable about plants, with a great eye for detail.
- experienced with machinery, including tractors, chainsaws, rotary and cylinder mowers, and with some knowledge of maintenance
- a driver with a full licence
- ability to manage an outdoor role
- good at talking to, and getting on with, all kinds of people
- equally confident working within a team, with volunteers or on your own
- able to keep to time, plan and meet deadlines
