Head of Clinical Services

**About The Role**:
Are you an experienced registered health care professional seeking a new challenge?

Practice Plus Group Portsmouth is seeking its new Head of Clinical Services.

This is a senior post and a core member of the senior management team, supporting the hospital director by ensuring the provision of safe, effective, evidenced based care across all the settings and specialities of PPG Portsmouth.

This unique and varied role covers primary care, in our busy urgent treatment centre, secondary care, in our surgical centre which provides outpatients and day case surgery across a number of specialities including ophthalmology, endoscopy, general surgery, and urology, and diagnostics.

**What you'll be doing**:
The head of clinical services has a key leadership, assurance and management role at a senior level, and will provide clinical skills and knowledge to support the organisation in its delivery of care to patients. The post holder has a core role in the delivery of high standards of clinical care, ensuring an environment that is conducive to the well-being of both staff and patients whilst contributing to effective budgetary management.

As a clinical leader the head of clinical services has a responsibility for training and development within the sphere and scope of clinical practice at Practice Plus Portsmouth (surgical centre, urgent treatment centre, Havant diagnostics) and any other satellite sites, promoting high standards of care and development in clinical practice.

Principle duties and responsibilities

Managerial
- Ensure workload and staff skill mix is organised to accommodate effective care and in alignment with clinical requirements and/or guidance e.g. AFPP.
- Provide clear, consistent leadership to all clinical and non-clinical staff in the unit, maintaining a visible presence.

Communication
- Ensure that identified lines of communication are maintained with patients, colleagues and external agencies to demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity and promoting the corporate image.
- Be actively involved in management forums, facilitate own team meetings and inter team meetings to ensure flexible working and service provision. Provide and circulate minutes and all relating documents / presentations formally and informally.

Clinical governance/quality
- Ensure systems are in place so that all staff are aware of and work in accordance with relevant legislation and company policies.
- Ensure that proficient risk assessment and reporting is being undertaken at all levels and lessons are learnt and implemented taking account of valid new evidence.

Clinical professional responsibilities
- Retain clinical credibility and act as a role model in the delivery of patient care, within a specialised and highly critical and technical area, ensuring all aspects are addressed appropriately.
- Have a proactive approach to self-development, working within the relevant code of professional conduct.
