Senior Medical Officer Service Entry

Job summary

Based in HMNB Portsmouth, The Service Entry Medical Cell is a department sitting within the Head of Recruitment and Attraction as part of the People and Training Directorate.

Workload includes policy development, complex casework determining fitness for military service in difficult and disputed cases, support to contracted medical examiners and the New Entry Training Establishments. The post is full time with the flexibility of virtual working.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week a 9 to 5 role and Hybrid working.

Job description

To work with Recruitment and Attraction’s Medical Division to ensure appropriate Royal Navy input to Joint Service Publication 950 the Joint Service Manual of Medical Fitness, at the Medical Employability Standards Military Judgement Panel.

To liaise with the Practice Medical Officers of New Entry Training Establishments regarding cases discharged “Not Finally Approved (Medical)” and to advise HRA and the Contractor of any follow up regarding concerns with Military Medical Examiners.

Person specification

**We are looking for someone who has**:
Appropriate clinical skills and experience to provide medical oversight.
Registered medical practitioner on the GMC Specialist Register in Occupational Medicine, holding a license to practise and in date for annual appraisal and revalidation.

Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to form strong working relationships with the existing Service Entry Medical Department, military and non-military partners.
A proven track record of working collaboratively within teams.

Strong written and verbal communication skills
A commitment to undertake continuing professional development throughout their career. Important Information

This role will require full UK security clearance and you should have resided in the UK for the past 5 years. For some roles Developed Vetting will also be required, in this case you should have resided in the UK for the past 10 years.

Licences

Registered Medical Practitioner on the GMC Specialist Register in Occupational Medicine. Holding licence to practice.

**Qualifications**:
Appropriate clinical skills and experience to provide medical oversight. Consultant Occupational Physician

Evidence of qualification will be required at interview

Equivalent Qualifications will not be accepted.
